What are some things that were important to him during slavery? After? What do you think about his experiences?

  1. He wanted to visit his siblings because they were separated at a young age. He felt very lonely that he even ran away to visit them at other states like Kentucky and many other. After the slavery he got a job that pays at $ 7.00 per month. What I think about his experience is that he has no point of working because that wage is poorly but I don’t blame him as long as he can get some money to feed his family or he wanted to eat. That is pretty lame that white people can not pay a lot of money to Negros even though they got a lot of money they can do it themselves.

  2. Based on Johns fields expiriences with slavery where that they where divided..some where sent to a plantation. When they got there they wrote their names in a slips o paper and they passed them around and the paper with the name that came out was the new owner. They took out the came ut to be a relative of the maaster. His expirences happen when he was a kid around 11 years old. And the rest was hard to read it was blurry

  3. HIS NARRATIVE WAS VERY BLURY BUT I GOT TO UNDERSTAND THAT HE WAS IN HORROR OF HIS SEPERATION FROM HIS FAMILY.SOME WENT TO A PLANTATION AND OTHERS WENT TO (KY TO CHARLESTON,VIRGINIA,LEXINGTON ,HARTFORD ECT....HE STAYED WERE HE WAS AT.IT WAS HORRABLE FOR HIM. AFTER SLAVERY HE GOT MARRIED AT THE AGE OF 24 AND HAD 4 KIDS AND THEY WERE IMPORTANT TO HIM. HIS WIFE HAS BEEN DEAD FOR 12 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS.I THINK IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR HIM BECAUSE HE GOT SEPERATED FROM HIS FAMILY AND IT WAS WRONG FOR THAT,AND ALL OF THAT HE GONE THROUGH IS HORRABLE.BUT IT WAS NICE WHEN HE GOT MARRIED AND HAD KIDS.BUT SAD WHEN SHE DIED.GOOD WHEN SLAVERY WAS OVER.

  5. I think that some important things that happened in his life were that he was taken away from his mother, his brothers were given away to different people, he was also to work as a slave. After slavery I think that some important tings would be that he got a job and he also got married. He had four children. When the emancipation proclamation was passed not many people knew that they were free. I think that his expirieces weren't great because he never got to live a family life. At the time there was still salavery it was pretty harsh because they had different treatment.

  6. I think it was bad that they took away all of his brothers because their owner had died. It was nice that they allowed his mom to visit them. After slavery, he got a job and got paid seven dollars a month. He married at age 24 and had four children. His wife has been dead for 12 years and 8 months.

  10. When John Fields was six he was seperated from his family (except for his brother). A memory he doesn't like to remember is when his master's husband whipped a slave until she bleed from her back and John was told to hold a light for everyone to see. Then one slave was told to pour salt water on her back. That, to me, seems like a terrible thing for a child to wittness.

  11. Many things were important to Fields. The main one during his childhood was his brothers and sisters. I thought his experience was rather unique for he stated how he felt when he was deprived from ever living with his other siblings. Somethings important to him after he escaped was being the only member who helped build a baptist church. As I feel Fields like was filled with depression and sadness, for as a boy he was separated from his children and worst of all his parents. As life for him continued it became more terrible with the department of his brother after enlisting in the army and the death of his wife. Yet still the worst was the fact that all of his life he was a slave and when he was finally free he worked as a laborer that being said similar to a slave.

It was sad how they took all the brothers & separated them like that, & how they could only see their Mami once a year. He moved to the North states after he found he was free, & tried to fight for the Union but was too young. His first job payed him 7 dollars a month. He married at 24, & had 4 children. His wife had been dead for 12 years & 8 months. He tries to live according to what the Lord thinks it should be lived on; based on his religion.

John Fields experience the slavery labor and was separated from his family. As a kid he served until he was finally free. Then got married and had e kids. But there was this problem that he got a job and was paid miserably. He was paid only 7 dollars a month.I imagine that, been so poor with only a monthly wage of 7 dollars and a wife with 4 children.Men that was bad.

John Field's life/narrative was sad, because as a kid, he was taken from his parents at only six years old. His family was separated and spread across the country. If white men, tried to leach a slave to read, they were sentenced to jail time. His life as a slave was harsh, they had no beds and slept on hard floors, John had no blankets, and had to sleep right beside a fire during the winter. He was forced to hold a light, so his master could Whip a girl who couldn't work, If he ( or any other slave ) was caught trying to read or write, they'd be starved. He married at 24 and had four kids, his wife died. He was free until 1864, when he found that could, he planned to join the army, He tried to live by god's word. I felt bad for him, i think it would be harsh, to live like that. At only 7 dollars a month. I don't think i could live like that, ever. I think it's horrible that he was separated from his brothers and sisters, i would have cried, and been really upset for a long time, if i had to be away from my mother and siblings that long, i would like to know if he was ever reunited with his family, with his brothers and sisters, or ever saw his mom again. i think he's a brave man, for everything he went through, and for wanting to fight for the union, also for living by god's word. He must have struggled to always obey 'god's' word.
