This is the last paragraph of Lincoln's speech:
"With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan--to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations."
Assignment: What theme do you think Abe Lincoln is trying to get across here? Pay attention to the date the speech was given; this will help you to infer the theme. He gave this speech before the end of the Civil War. How might this message apply to wars going on today? I am expecting one detailed paragraph in response.

this morning i woke up very tiered like always. well the point is that today is thursday 3 more days for halloween. i dont know what iam goig to be but i whant to soprize my mom. she told me that i could be u duck i felt like she was treating me like a little girl. do u see a 13year old dresed as a duck. well my point is that i dont know what to be but i will be something i havent bin.
ReplyDeleteI`m so exited because on Saturday I`m going to a Halloween party.I yet don`t know what I`m going to be.I think I`m going to dress up like me,myself,and I.Or maybe something scary Muhahaahaha.As always when i see a scary mask or costumes I get scared.I think this year it is going to be the same,but at the end of the day i know i shouldn`t of seen them or went because of the nightmares.Oh well!Happy Halloween Muahhahahahahaaaha!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Theme Of The Paragraph Is "Care For Each Other" The Reason I Think That Is Because Lincoln Says "to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan" Which Means, Let's Help The Family's That The War Has Effect. This Message Is Able To Apply To Wars Today Because We Help Family's That Have Been Affected By War.

ReplyDeleteThe theme I think Abraham Lincoln was trying to get across was strength.I think this because it takes strength to finsh something that hurt a lot of people.For example when he said its time to bind up our nations wounds meaning we should all team up and use our strengths to help rebuild our country and unite it into one.

The Message that is going around the Wars is that maybe they might get the Message like spreading Around the Country,and that they do the War with Pride. So,that's whats going Around in the War Today and in the Future with Peace Among Ourselves, and the Nation.
ReplyDeleteI think lincoln's last paragraph is about how we should care and think about the soldiers that got wounded or hurt in battle.Also, for the women that are now widows because their men died and for their children and how sad they are that they lost their dads. Thats very sad.
ReplyDeleteA theme that Abraham Lincoln is trying to get across is for the war to end already. For the right to be given to all. To acheive anything thats possible. To also have peace at last. Care for more people or to start caring. Just like he said among ourselves and with all nations.
ReplyDeleteThe theme I see Abe trying to say is to help rebuild the things torn apart because of the war. One sentence I find that this applies to the theme would be how it states we should help bind of the nation seeming how it was split (torn apart). This message might apply to the wars now. One being said that now the government gives those who have lost a husband benefits to help them. Another reason why this message applies to wars now would be that there are now veterans hospitals.

He mentioned that we should all help the soldiers and their family, to help the orphans of the killed soldiers and his wife.This applies to wars today because many families loose a loved one in the war. Afterwards, they need help with everyday life, they need help with bills and payments. We should all reach out and help the family.

So this civil war were fighting for is all and were strong and can finish with this war how we started strong!! To make us fight up care for our wounds one last time. To make us live and finish this war to be happy free finally have peace in this world!!! I think the theme is peace this means lets finish the war and move on with live cant we all get along! Peace one and for all!!! We live for something so make it worth something!

He is also trying to say fix the damages the war has caused the nation. He is also saying that the people should care for each other and (and I am guessing) to stop fighting. Finally he wants the peace to last for everyone. This meesage applys to the war going on today because the war is causing peace for almost no one.

ReplyDeleteTo be kind to the men who are sacrificing their lives to win a battle because that soldier is a person, & he has a wife, could have a child & they will be very sad & upset that their soldier has died. And since he is dead people should show sympathy so they could let them know that they're loved one dirent die in vain & for nothinq. To care for their family.
ReplyDeleteI think Lincoln`s theme was that we are all a union so we are all in this together.I think this was when the civil war was still going on so,Lincoln wanted us to all work together and stay a union.I think this might apply to wars we have today because everyone is picking a side so that may cause problems to the union.Also because this is causing damages to another country or state and that people might want revenge.I think that Lincoln`s idea of all of us working together was good because we will end with a good nation/union.

To stop the madness and get back to the way we lived before this when there was peace. I think this goes for wars today because Abraham Lincoln said that we should have peace amongst us and other nations unlike we are now. He is also trying to say to let the peace last and never let it die.

To strive and rebuild the Union as it was right before the Confederates broke it apart. Also to assist those who have got nothing left to themselves, such as a father or a son, to assist one another since we are all one single nation together. That is the real theme that Abraham Lincon is trying to give the nation, Reconstruction is the real theme.

He talks about god and the right he gives us to see to strive on to finish the work we are in. Thats exactly what i think the theme is because thats the whole point of war, to be over and to finally have peace with each nation. He does think there could finally be peace today. War this days we dont really hear about, well i dont, but i think war was harsh back then more than it is now.
ReplyDeleteI would say that the theme of the last paragraph in Lincoln’s speech would be to work together. He wants us to work together and reconstruct our nation because of all the damage that we have caused it during the civil war. There were many people and places that fell apart and now we have to work together to fix it.
ReplyDeleteWhat Lincoln was trying to get across is that we need to stop the war and be United. When he talks about the widow and the orphan he is talking about all the soldiers wifes and children. All of the familes that fell apart from this. And we need to make peace between every other nation and ourselves. But the main messege is when he says let us strive to finish the work were in meaning to work hard to finish and win this war.

ReplyDeleteBased on what I read I think what Abe Lincon is trying to get across by "let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds;" for example is that by helping the south rebuild after the Civil War ,and make the south and the north come down to fair agreements like Civil Rights also for African Americans. I strongly believe this message applies to whats going on today because now the united states turned into a just and peacefull place among their selves and their nation.

ReplyDeleteAbe Lincoln's theme was, we should help the soldiers coming back from war and the families who lost loved ones and patch up America. The soldiers fought for what they believed in and they deserve the best. Thousands of families lost someone they loved, and they need help moving on. America got split, and we need to patch things up so we can trust each other again. I think that was Abe Lincoln's theme.

The men that suffered the war, husbandless mothers, and fatherless children try to bring peace to us and to the nation. I think that Abraham Lincoln wants the nations who are fighting this war should be in peace with each other and for the solders to go back with their family. In this case since this speech was given before the Civil War ended I think Abraham Lincoln wanted the Confederacy and Union to stop fighting and come back together as one nation. How this speech applies to the wars today is that all the nations who are involved in wars should stop fighting because together we can become a better world.
ReplyDeleteWhat Abraham Lincoln would tell the speech, he would talk things that citizens must do during the Civil War like rising up and help the soldiers. He would also say to soldiers to work together to end the war and after that to make a lasting peace with the southern citizens of the Confederate states. He would also say that people should help the widows and orphans of soldiers who would die during the Civil War. To other wars, people should do so there would be no more killings, no more arguing, and no more violence which would result friendship and lasting peace with others.
