The theme of the poem is people telling you what to do.Like in the text they use,"And they tell me that you are crooked....''(9-10).I think this is the theme of all this poem because they use repetition. Also they mainly talk about that in all 5 stanzas.Like, "and they will tell you you are brutal"(10-12)That stanza means that everyone can change their opinion and they would judge fast. The theme of this poem is people telling you what to do.Also that in Chicago things can change.

This poem is confusing i don't really know what the theme of this poem is but i think the author is trying to say that the city Chicago is going bad for all the bad people and people are doing things that they are not suppose to do. They just don't care about other people they only care about themselves and do bad and dumb things for no reason. Things are getting destroyed and people are dying kids are starving animals are getting abuse this city ¨Chicago¨ is not doing so good we need to change and do things the right way

I think the theme of the poem "Chicago" is that every city is dangerous you shouldn't judge any city because they are all the same.I think this is the theme because they're basically saying that Chicago is dangerous.A line in the poem that shows the theme is "yes it is true i have seen the gunman kill and go free to kill again"(9-11).This line shows the theme because its telling how dangerous the gunman are.Another line that shows the theme in the poem"Chicago" is "come and show me another city with lifted head singing"(18).I think this line shows the theme because the man is trying to say that they should show him another city that is not dangerous because all of them are. This is why i think the theme of the poem "Chicago" is that people shouldn't judge Chicago because its dangerous cause all the cities are the same.

This is because in line 33 its states that its happy and then smiling meaning he loves Chicago and enjoys it. This is why I think the theme is he enjoys his hometown.

The theme of this poem don't go towards other peoples saying. According to "Chicago" it states 'I turn once more to those who sneer at my city, and i give them back the sneer.' What this is trying to say in the poem of 'Chicago' is that even though many other people are saying mean things and stories to him he knows that Chicago is way different and that their words don't really matter to him. In the poem it also states 'Sweating, proud to be a Hog Butcher.' What this line is saying is how even though they work hard and there's hard times hes proud of living where he is now he laughs and thinks what a great home I have. This is why the theme of this poem is dont go towards other peoples saying.

The message of this poem is taking place in chicago. This is talking about how chicago has been destroyed and that alot of people dont have jobs. The evidence that supports these( flinging magnetic curses amid the toil of pilling job on job, here is a tall bold slugger st vivid against against the little soft cities).( 20-22) this is saying that the their having more jobs for the people who needs them .the people are poor and dont have food to eat,so thats why it says that the children i have seen the marks of wanton hunger. My concluding sentense is that people dont have a jobs but they are happy like that to be with their families even though they dont have nothing to eat.well for me i think love matters than anything else because all youre family loves you equally.

The theme of the poem "Chicago" is how Chicago is a tough place and cruel place and also has its own beauty which it is proud to be called the names that it's called. In the poem it states, "And they tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the
faces of women and children I have seen the marks
of wanton hunger."(12-14). This line of the poem is saying how brutal Chicago can be, he has seen children with marks of wanton hunger. Kids have starved of hunger and are starving but nobody does anything. The poem "Chicago" also states in the last stanza, "Laughing the stormy, husky, brawling laughter of
Youth, half-naked, sweating, proud to be Hog
Butcher, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat, Player with
Railroads and Freight Handler to the Nation"(39-42). This sentence is talking about how Chicago is proud to be called these names and how it has its own inner beauty deep down all the darkness and cruelty that people see about Chicago. The theme of the poem "Chicago" is that every city is dangerous. Evidence is "and they tell me you are crooked and i answered; yes it is true i have seen the gunman kill and go free to kill again" (9-11) this is the evidence because its saying how they let the gunman go free to kill again. That is saying that is a dangerous city just like others because the same thing couldve happened in other cities which did. The evidence of my explanation is "And having answered do i turned once more to those who sneer at this my city with lifted head singin.so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning. (15-19) That part shows that other cities are the same and thats why the speaker of the poem said "come and show me another city" meaning they are not going to find a calm city. so is saying every city is dangerous.

It shows how the city live in darkness that there are people killing other people .the author states (" Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning"). The the theme of the poem "Chicago" is don't judge a city by the its cover. In this poem it states,"I turn once more to those who sneer at this my city, and I give them back the sneer" (11-12). This peace of the poem is saying that if you're going to be talking bad about my city, I'll do it back. This also means that the person that wrote this poem is standing up for Chicago and is fighting back on the bad remarks against us. In the poem it states,"Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning."(18-19). This means our city is better than any other city out there. This is also means that all the people who are talking smack, are wrong on the their remarks they've said. This poem "Chicago" is a person standing up for Chicago as a whole group and defending us from haters around the world. This means that even though that the speaker's city is not perfect, it is his city. Also that his city is like any other city like Chicago. "Proud to be hog butcher, tool maker,..." is another line. This means that no matter what, Chicago is unique in its own way. This theme is important in life because most look at the bad side at a city like Chicago, but no matter what each city or place in general is important to us as a home and a place to shape our future.

The theme of "Chicago" is that Chicago can be a dangerous place where peace doesn't run through this city. It's trying to say that Chicago has a thousand of different people, but there are many that will look at you in different ways. Such as there being gangs that go to jail for criminal or violence but at soon as they get out they do the same thing.(9-11) Another thing that the poet is trying to say is that many people will tell you different things about you, but you should have to have your way of expressing yourself. (6-8) A final thing that I noticed in this poem is that people are in difficult situations but still intend to do the bad as if they want there life even worse as it already is. Then people look at them as if they don't have a problem, like there ordinary rich people.(29-31) But the theme is that Chicago has a little bit of everything happy people, poor, rich, gangs, action, love. In Chicago you'll pretty much see a little bit of everything, but in other city's or country's it can be a whole different story.

This means that people might not have the same type of life you have so by saying that, that means that you should be grateful of how you live. According to the poem "Chicago" it states, "And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it/ is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to/ kill again"(9-11). These lines supports the theme by them saying that people kill and then they are released to kill again which means that isn't good. What I think about the poem "Chicago" is that this is mostly about some person is causing a lot of havoc or goodness to the place when making their own image of what the land should have been. It says that ("Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning".Chicago,18-19). This would tell that there is going to be another place to which is good and probably cause a change that could affect the location of where many innocents would suddenly feel like later on. I felt like this would cause some trouble when this would decide to know if this would spoil the city sadly or happily when nobody should treat the land like if it was for granted or any dumb excuse. It also says that in "Chicago", ("Laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has never lost a battle,Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse. and under his ribs the heart of the people, Laughing!" Chicago 34-38). This evidence would want to talk about making destruction to mankind and that someone really evil would want to take out everything in sight without even believing about what good really means and this would be just something horrible that is being done.

What i think this poem means is that Chicago is not the safest place in the world but there is no other place as amazing as Chicago. I believe this because in the poem it states, " Come and show me another city with lifted head singing/so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning" (18-19). What this line is trying to say is that although all the dangerous things that go on in this city, it is still full of proudness and cunning which means having or showing skill in achieving one's ends. I think this poems meaning is to inform the reader that Chicago is quiet dangerous but no other city can compare to the joy that we can have Chicago be. This is why i believe that the theme of "Chicago" is not to see something, in this case Chicago, for it's bad reputation but for the great times people have in that special place.

The theme of the poem is that you should not judge a city by its crime or poverty or anything above that sort because you might not like that city but somebody else loves that city. I came to this conclusion because of lines (7-22)they are all saying that you might not love Chicago but people who live her love Chicago. Also in the last stanza the author says everything that people thing Chicago is and also that what he says Chicago isn't.

The theme of the poem "Chicago" is, how a man puts so much hard work and so much dedication into his stuff (Like to the world around him). So he realizes how the world really is, like a harsh cold world with nothing to offer back when you so much try and make something out of what you can to offer when yet you gain nothing back

The theme of the poem 'Chicago" is to admire your city no matter what anybody says. I think that is the theme because in the beginning it starts to list certain things. According to,"Chicago","And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it
is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to
kill again."(9-10) This means that Chicago lets criminals escape just so they can kill again. They are clearly making fun of the our city Chicago. That is not true they do not let them out and they keep making fun of Chicago. In the end anybody can say what they want everybody has their opinions, just dont take shame for your city is what the author is trying to say.According to,"Chicago"On the
faces of women and children I have seen the marks
of wanton hunger.(13-14). This means that the people in Chicago are poor or don't take care of there kids those are all rumors there may be some moms but most moms are good caring moms. Finally the theme if the poem is don't be ashamed of your city like the author dosent like it bring him down either, thats my theme.

  57. The theme of "Chicago" is never abuse or hurt anyone because you wouldn't like that because in the poem "Chicago" the Carl Sandburg writes "And they tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the faces of women and children I have seen the mark of wanton hunger.(Stanza 2 line 7) The author is saying he abuse women and young children. And the author said he already knew. The man this author is writing about has no feelings because in the poem he states "laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has never lost a battle" he saying that you dont care just like a sore loser not caring about what he did wrong. So this is what I think the poem "Chicago" means.

the way i interpreted this poem of Chicago is that it is s bad city. "I have seen the gunman kill and go free to
kill again." (lines 10 &11)-Chicago. " faces of women and children I have seen the marks
of wanton hunger". the city were you see hungry children in the city and adults who cant be fed. I also thought that this isn't the only city like this. any city can be like this . to kill a person and hide and you wont get caught. i mean anywhere you go their are homeless and poor who cant eat for weeks and barely survive. You just have to pay attention to your surroundings and you will notice Chicago isn't that bad after all.

The theme of the poem "Chicago" is after a storm there is always a rainbow. I say this because in the poem the poet states"Laughing the stormy, husky, brawling laughter of Youth, half-naked, sweating, proud to be Hog
Butcher, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat, Player with
Railroads and Freight Handler to the Nation."(38-41) Here even thought their are times in our lives that we wish for something better, but we have to look at the good things in life. "Under the smoke, dust all over his mouth, laughing with white teeth,Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young man laughs."(31-34) Even thought life has elements that puts us down. Here even thought there was an accident it was funny. Like I said, we have to look at the upside down thing as at least good things. Because of this text, I believe that the theme of this poem is after a storm there is always a rainbow.

The theme of "Chicago" is, the city is too big and where there is a lot of crime, because in the story it says, "And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it
is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to
    kill again.
And they tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the
faces of women and children I have seen the marks
of wanton hunger." that shows that there is crime, and starvation. The story also says "And having answered so I turn once more to those who
sneer at this my city, and I give them back the sneer" meaning the city will fight back to which ever city/person. This poem, "Chicago" is mostly about fighting, because it explains how a character. "Fierce as a dog with tongue lapping for action" this poem explains how the city of Chicago really is in real life. "Building, breaking, rebuilding". That is why I think that is the theme of this poem.

The poet also includes "Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning". ( 13-14) This shows that the speaker is trying to point out that there might be cities that may seem similar but to her there is no other place but Chicago. The theme of this poem is that there is to much violence in Chicago. For example: in stanza 2, it sates," I have seen a gunman kill and go free and kill again." (4-8)
I also think that the poet is trying to say that why does Chicago has a lot of violence? Many people can kill but they can be free again. Another theme that I think the poet is trying to say is that Chicago can be place with a lot of buildings and nice stuff but there is less people who are hard workers. I think he/she is trying to say that in other places where it is poor and not as nice as Chicago, they can be more hard workers and are also thankful to live. " Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive" (Stanza 2 line 13-17).

The theme of "Chicago" is to love your city no matter what people say. According to " Chicago", " I turn once more to those who/ sneer at my city, and i give them back the sneer / and say come and show me another city with lifted head singing" (15-18). This shows that the people were making fun of the city Chicago but the author of the poem was giving them facts that no other city could do. He was saying that no other city does lifted head singing like Chicago. Also, " So proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning. / Flinging magnetic curses amid the toil of pilling job on job" (19-21). This also shows the author defending his city because he's saying no other city is like Chicago. It may be dangerous and a lot of people may not like it but he likes his city so he's going to defend it. Lastly," Fierce as a dog with tongue lapping for action, cunning/ as a savage pitted against wilderness" (23-24). This proves that Chicago is a strong country and no matter what people say he will always love his city. My concluding sentence to always love your city no matter what.

the theme for "Chicago" is this city is full of life. I think that`s the theme because in the last stanza, Carl Sandburg is describing Chicago as a person. He names places as things to be proud of.He also says that people may not like this city but i do.

I think the theme of the poem is to be proud of something in your life even if others make fun of it. I know this is the theme of the poem "Chicago" because in the poem it says "And having answered so I turn once more to those who sneer at this my city, and I give them back the sneer and say to them:Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning.Flinging magnetic curses amid the toil of piling job of job, here is a tall bold slugger set vivid against the little soft cities;".(15-22) This supports my theme because in the poem people are saying many mean things about where he lives, but that does not make him feel bad about where the author lives. Instead it makes the author more proud and confident about where he lives because the author responds by telling the others that he does not care what the others think about his city, that the only important thing is what he thinks about his city. This is why I think the theme of the poem "Chicago" is to be proud about something in you life even if others make fun of it.

I think the theme of this poem is, believe in your city. I believe this is the theme because in the poem it says, "They tell me you are wicked and I believe them, I have seen your painted women under the gas lamps luring the farm boys."(6-8). The speaker believes what he is told and well believing people really doesn"t help. This example shows me that the speaker is not really thinking on what the people tell him he just believes. In the text it states,"Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse and under his ribs the heart of the people."(36-37). This states that the speaker shows how he believes on his city and showing his emotions. He doesn't really care what people say or do to not like the city of Chicago. This example shows me that whether bragging about your city keep in mind that you could believe that it's good for you. The repetition on this poem was, "HOG Butcher for the World, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler."(1-3). I believe this is the theme of the poem.
