Well i think that she had many horrible experiences because she had to go to a school were white people treated them badly, and because of that she had to leave her family and move to the north....... her advice is very helpful and thoughtful.

  2. I saw that Melba is no long afraid of being called bad things. She shaped up and gained courage. It's as if she changed in a way she wanted to and she's happy with it. Her expirences seem to be pretty hard to comprehend how she survived it all. I personaly might of givin up. Also her advice seems to be strong and brave like she has no fear of what some one will think of it. Happy to say I'm proud of her some how.

  3. That the in hurtfull things that had she been through melba , was that one question i did was what were thinking and felling on the first say of central high ? which was here answer was that she was hopefull that nothing would go wrong and that she was also scared ,and thinking on her physicla herself on how she should go ,that she has suffered like 15 yrs on rasim and trhat she dont care that what they say about her. whiich also she was an dreamer ,on traveling to places, which also that black people would be treated better ,and aslo more respect .Another question i was wondering on seeing her answer was that when you got to school that first day what did you encounter ? which her response was which she said that things had gone to violent ,that didnt knew how the grown ups would act and say .THAT THE CHILD doesnt understand until it has happpended to youa.d even threathing to even kill you ,and even walking AND SLAPPING ME to the wall even chasing me with baseball bats ...which i thought is wrong.well comon this isnt the way gown ups should behave.....which this was her answer which sounds hurt fulll and very hurts inside on remembering those thing.this is what i think and the questions i had picked..

  4. Well I think that she and the others that attended central high are very brave. They had some though expiriances but they made it through and they are very succesful after their expiriance. Well it must have been hard to intgrate were they didn't want her. Plus she changed alot by being an upstander and wanting to make a change in the world. Also it must have been hard for her to leave her family behind because of the kkk. Plus she must have felt weird that she was liveing in an all white family but she got useto it and thought of them as her family since she couldn't go back to be with her family.

  5. the questions i read about melba was the ones wher she talks about her feelings in central high i personaly think that melba was a strong warrier becsue from her book she is the only one that work hard and she did what she have to do if she wanet to be in central she say that stuff did not help her on anyting and the way they treat her on the school she will have some good pacions for holding on to the and she was a brave women by bean ther with ther fellow friends all the way to the end.

  7. i think that melba experienced and went through alot, knowing everybody[white people] hated her because of her color,im surprised she didnt commit suicide, but she experienced alot. But she survived, she fought through and at the end she got what she deserved

  8. My insights were that the questions are based on the book. The questions that I was having are answered. I believe that Melba's experiences were really bad especially based on the book when a white person slapped Melba, and while she was being called a nigger? I wouldnt like to be called a nasty name like that, i think that no one would like to be called a name like that. The question that i believed was unfair was #6 because what would happen if one of the teachers were in Melbas place, i think that they would feel the same way unwanted, not welcomed, and treated differently. All these words are probably what were going through Melbas head while she was at Central High. My insights are that the only place where Melba felt safe was her home.

  9. What i was thinking as i read the questions I thought that the adults were worse than the kids because according to Melba some of her fellow classmates were very friendly and kind but by them doing that they were threatend by other classmates who were against integration that they were going to beat them up("Stand up for your rights").Also in my point of view i seen that there victims, little upstanders during this time, there were way more bystanders and perpatrators. The teachers and some students were the perpatrators because they were motivating for this to happen. The victims were Melba and her friends that were integrating Central High School because they were the ones being attacked("Warriors Don't Cry".What i think about Melba and her experiences is that she was motivated to get her rights and she wasn't going to let anything stop her. Also I think that Melba used her experience with Central High and racism to her advantage because her story has been told and her story could motivate others to not be racist.Melba's advice is to treat everybody equal and to talk to people that wouldn't expect you to("Stand up for your rights").From my view point I agree with Melba's advice because its true people should treat others how they want to be treated.

  10. her advice and expierences are good because she talks about everything and answers everything in the questions really good. her experiences are rough because she has gone through so much and she still decides not to give up and go to central high. my insights are that everuthing she said was good and brave. my other insights are that if i was in her shoes i would have answered the same.

My insights when I read the questions were how must she have felt when talking about her pass about going to Central high. Everyone in the school not wanting her to go there because of her skin color.
I think Melbas expiriences were rough because bobody wanted here there and she coulndt even go outside without someone telling her racial comments.
I think he edvice was wise because she says to look at children and adults equal. Many people dont do that. They think they are better than them. When most of us are the same.

  12. As i read i though about how brave Melba was to go to all white schhol. Even thought she was picked on lot she stilled stay in that school. Then school Central High was violent it was if she was in jail mothers wantted to act melba and the rest of the kids that were black. i think melbas experiences was very hard all she wantted was a good ecutadion she wantted to go to a better school but the school wasnt allowing her to. Nobody let her go in a club or do anything with other people. Her advie is good she telling us to me equl with everyone else trat everybody how you want to be trated. shes telling us we can change the world little by little make it better.

There were many insights I had about the questions. One of them was that she wasn't thinking much about the racism and prejudice. She was mostly thinking of how a normal teenager would. What should I wear? What if they don't like me? I think Melba had great advice because she actually lived through it. It really shows how she was a strong woman even dough she knew she was going to get picked on she still went. Ignoring the fear.

  14. some insights i have is that most of the questions are mostly talking about central high and what made her go and choose that school. What popped in my head when i started reading these questions is that melba's answers might have been all negative and maybe if she was reading the questions she might have remeber all these hard stuff she went through and i bet she remember all these harsh stuff she probably began to cry while reading and remembering what had happened.i think her experience was harsh because she had been discriminated and people where racist to her.i imagined myself in her shoes parents running after me and me bleeding because i felll also not being loved or wanted in that segregated school.if i were an african american i wouldnt like people to call me a nigger or any mean words like that.her advise i think was awesome she compared her life to the life she doesnt want us to have she tought us or wrote us stuff she probably didnt do like smile to people next to her wether they were white or not.even though she saw she wasnt being treared equal she still held non-violence resistence.she also wrote that we should connect with the universe and i agree with her.

Some of my insights about all of those questions were that i would of feel scared of going to a withe high school and get treated real bad and be segregate and discriminate cuz of mmy skin color. I also think that the 9 black students were real fiered to go to that high school because there was like 1000 whites and only 9 blacks...

  16. JessicaMancilla304Tue May 24, 08:26:00 AM

Some insights I had were that she just wanted to go to central high school because it was much closer to her neighborhood. The other thing was she wanted to go it school close to here mother. I think that was really nice because like she could of just go to an other school and not care about anything but she did. So she did anything to go and that was really sweet. I think that was really brave of her she did anything to go to central to help her family and her self. I think if I was Melba I would do the same thing. But I think I wouldn’t be able to be alive because I don’t like people being mean I think Melba was really brave. I think her expercies were really cool just to go through all that and still be good and alive today. I think her expercie were really cool and I can’t believe she went trough all that. She is a really good and brave girl/woman.

  17. The insights i saw through out the whole interview is that Melba was a strong girly, emotional and physical. I think Melba's experiences in Central H.S. was that she was hopeful for herself and persistent. Melba's advice can help people go thru tough stuff like H.S. Like ignore what people think about you, like if your too fat, too skinny, short tall, ugly, pretty and blahblah. What Melba experineced is something someone shouldn't experience at a young age and for that she is a strong Girl.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I noticed that as Melba was going on with her life, she never had anything against the white people. She didn't hate them, or envy them, she just accepted them, & wanted them to accept her. I think her experience, as well as other active integrationists, could help move many people. She was being personally attacked, & wanted dead, & she still didn't give up. I think her advice is very good, because she doesn't care what people talk/say about her anymore. She accepts who she is, how she is, & I think that is excellent advice for anyone these days.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Some insights that I had as I went through the questions is that Melba was a very brave and strong person through the segregation situation . I think that Melba was very brave b/c she went through alot of pain and she dint to anything to them , where If I was her I would of done something bad that I would of gotten introuble . I think that Melba's experiences were very intresting because she had the courage to tell us our experiences which I wouldnt of because I wouldnt want to remeber my past that affected most of my teenage years .

    ReplyDelete
  20. I noticed Melba never had any hate toward them at all. They didn't really deserve to be forgiven or never had hate towards them. She just tried to go on with her life and I thought that was really brave of her. She didn't hate them for all the pain and suffuring she had. Melba was scared most of the time and was always on the look out for someone who would cause more pain to her. I think that Melba is very kind because, I know if it was me then I would not be so pleased since they didn't really let her have a life. Her advice to smile at others is good but, that doesn't always change people. If you smile they might not because, they could be rotten and hate you for no reason. Yes, being nice to others might change the world but there are always some people who are rude, and grouches that want the world to stay how it is.

  21. As I read the questions, I thought about how in the beginning , on her first day at Central High, she was really different. She worried about what every girl worries about on the first day. She wonders if they will like her, if they’ll like her hair. She was joyful and hopeful, and wasn’t thinking about the violence that would occur. As her year there went on , the things that happened, the bullying and other things, changed her. She became a different person. She saw what racism and prejudice was like in the real world, how people turn the other way to protect themselves. She was in danger of her life and had to leave. I thought that her advice in the last interview was really true. You can’t change the world until you realize who you are, that you are strong, prefect, and deserve to be what you want to be. Once you do that, then you can really make a difference in the world. Melba’s advice and experiences are truly amazing and inspiring.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My insights of melba was when she barely got into central high was that joyous and hopeful
but she also was kind of frighten because she was new to the school, but she went to central high because melba said it was close to her mother school where she was trying to get master's degree but when she saw central high she said it was like a castle because she use to drive by it so many times the first time she entered central high she knew that things where going to be violent but some white kids were friendly and nice too her but some of the kids threatend and beat some of the kids to make them undetstand that melba and the other nine kids weren't allowed at central high, but melba also said that some of the teachers didn't really pay attetion to them because of what the other kids were doing to them, her ability to survive was to trust in God and her family

  23. I think that Melba’s answers to the questions were like the one in warriors don’t cry except she left out Vince and some of gruesome things that happened to her considering it’s a kid’s website. I still find it terrifying that the Ku Klux Klan would pay more for Melba dead than her alive. Sort the opposite when your looking for criminal. I find it ironic that after she moved she would living with a white family. I think Melba experience with integration wasn’t good because she had to move because they were going to kill her but it help her learn how to stand up for her self and make her good of herself no matter what people say to her.

Some insights I had while looking though the questions was that Melba and the other went through alot just to get into Central High. Also, even though Melba would get beat up she would not give up. Her grandmother was the one that kept her from giving up. I think her experiences where scary. I think if something like intergrating schools happened here not alot of kids would be as brave as Melba. I think her advice was great.

Some insights i have when i went throught the questions is that her respone were great and that and probably melba might have some trouble to answer some question because some the question are strong and i think melba was a strong person and was really brave. I think her experiences were brave because she had to go trought alot of trouble to enter central high and i think her advice was really great because she wants ous to be good person to not cause trouble and to make a change in the world.

  26. I think that Melba's experience was intersting of what she feel and thought on the first day of school at Central. She said that she was joyous and hopeful of being there .Also she said that she had just come back from Cincinnati, Ohio, where black people were treated better, and she thought "This is the beginning. This is when Little Rock is going to become like Cincinnati, Ohio. I think that is why she wanted to go to Central high to change the way the white people treated black people at that school.

Here are some of the insights I have about the questions. I think it was sort of a good thing Melba didn't have to worry about prejudice and racism leading to violence. Instead she worried about how she looked. I thought it was good that Melba thought that Little rock was going to be like Cincinnati. Although I thought it was weird that Melba just wanted to go to Central High just to look inside. Although the event was majorly important. So I think that curiousity didn't kill the cat this time. Melba was right when she said that by going to Central High she would anger white people. Ithought it was stupid that people wanted to kill her because of her skin color. Adult aren't suppose to act this way.

  28. What i thought of melba's interview was that she was happy the first day of school she was some how scared thought but she was worried that she would be prejudice what se did or how she looked. She wanted to go because she wanted to see how was the school like and stuff. She thought the white people weregoing to be anger about the black coming and intergrate.i thought it was a good interview. she let her feelings out.

  29. melbas experiances war really bad adoults trying to get her out of the school by telling her rude stuff and chasing her with bats sticks.people would even spit on her.i think melba was pretty strong because she stayed in tha high school untill she gratuated. she also did not lisean to her grandma about what was she saying about the high school.her advice was to never give up and just keep trying untill your done with your goal.

Some insights that i had as i went through the questions were things that i had read about. She talked and answered question that i think that i had a answer for too. According to what i read i think Melba's experiences were rough. I think this because the whites were cruel and mean to the blacks. The whites didn't treat the blacks as equals. I think Melba's advice was honest and something that people need to do. We should treat people as equals. No one is better as a person as someone else. Thats why i think Melba's advice is great. Melba had bad times in her life but her belief in God helped her. So those were the insights that i had while reading her interview.

    ReplyDelete
  32. the question that i have chosen for melba's interview is 13:What advice do you have for young people who want to change the world? Melba experience and advice she had given to this answer is she said to smile the person next to you and tolerate the person who are the nearest. she says that to change the worl you need to look at the mirrior to realize you know who you are whats your connectin to the universe.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The advice that Melba was giving is filled with inspiration in my opinion becuase she says,"Be certain that you are looking at the children and adults next to you as equals--and that you are being seen as equal".She says that basically to treat someone the way you want to be treated. If you want to feel equal to others.Treat them as they were equal to you.One thing that caught my attention was when she said that her her strengh came from her teachings from her mother and grandmother. That family is always there for you.For the good and bad.Something else was that she sais she knew as a child what racism was.As a child she has experienced racism and prejudice first hand.

When Melba talks about being terrified to go to a new school, and she knew she would be made fun of because of being black, but she wasn't sure what to wear, how to style her hair. Melba says that in Cincinnati, Ohio, blacks were treated better, than in Little Rock. She also talks about the nieghboorhood making her decide to attend Central High. She had driven past Central High many times, and heard stories of black chefs and she wanted to see what was inside. She spoke about the way teachers treated her, they didn't want her to be in the school, many teachers were segregationist, so they didn't support her being there. She said the strength to stay alive came from her grandmother, and her mother. She said the children at school were hostile, and angry, but it wasn't their fault, they were changed. She said many kids who weren't "brain washer" by segregationists, shill shunned people, and looked the other way when blacks were getting beat up. I think melba had to face many horrible experiences, and i'm thankfull for everything she and the little rock nine went through to get intergration going, i think if it wasn't for the 9, my life would be different, because of my race, i wouldn't have a good education.

  35. melba talks about her hard expireances at central high.what inspired me about her was the fact that she went all those days and yeah maybe she would lose faith but then she knew that god stands by her side at all moments.and she had her mom with her all the times as well as her grandma and thanks to them she was able to go on with all there support.her advice was good because she talks about how fist you have to except yourself in order to go on and take the next step .melba patillo beals is very inspiring.

I thought she was very strong. Even though the people at Central High didn't want any black people there, they still went & were strong to go. She was very mature to go & stand up for her people, & try to intergrate the school. Her expirences are life changing to not only her but America. If it wasn't for what she went through, & all of the difficult expirences, then I don't think schools would be integrated today. I think she was stong, & mature go ahead, & make sacrifices. She problably felt like giving up sometimes, & she problably felt like going back to her own life but she didn't. She kept on fighting for what she believed in, & at the end of the day, thats what she got. I think it was really dumb for Central High to close the school just because they didn't want to integrate. I think the adults are extra immature for attacking Melba.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I thought that she was a brave younge girl who wanted something better in her life. She thought that she would have more options than in her old high school. The first question made me think that she wanted to turn central high like Cincinnati were everyone can be equal. Her goal was to make somethinq out of hershef and prove all the racist wrong she wasnt going to let anyone stop her. When she got their the first day of school she incountered racism violence and she new it was going to be a great challenge that she is going to overcome.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well the questions she answered here have the same answers like the book. She says that when she was going to Central high for the first time she felt nervous like any other kid joining a new school. She also said that she worried how she looked and wondered if her hair would look better in a pony tail or if she was properly dressed. She knew about racism but she didnt think it would turn into violence. I think that Melba was a really brave girl because even thought she knew she was going to be insulted and threated bad in that school she still decided to go even though she was scared. I think if i was her i wouldve just stop going to that school im not brave enough like her.

Well, the interview with Melba was certainly interesting in a way of just wanting to listen to what she had to say. One inference I had when I read on her questions was that I felt like I was actually there in Melba’s shoes, experiencing all that was occurring in her life at Central. Some of the questions that interested me towards reading her responses was how when I set up the question of How did you decide to go to Central, and her response was that it was like a castle, and it would be interesting to go to it, as an official different. Another question that interested me was how when I clicked on the one that said What advise would you give to young people who would change the world, and her response got me to think I should participate in this some day. It read how she said how everything began with one single step, to greet people you don’t know, to how changing the world wasn’t such a big event, but you can do it. This showed me how I can actually change the world and do something different for it. Thank you Melba Beals, you are but one more person who told us, as kids to a new world, how we can do a different without being BIG.

Some of the thingd that i saw was that Melba Patillo is not really sounding like she wants revenge on people. She doesn't sound like she is terribly mad at these people. She is saying how these "white people" helped her be much stronger in life. She now knows how to ignore someone and not listen to their name calling or threats. This did effect her after all of the violence and harrassement of all those teenagers and parents. After all the advice she gave me, I think that if I have a goal that I want really bad to accoplish then
to stay foccused on them. Do not care what everyone else sais or if someone tells you that you can't do it. If you want something really bad, then you can do it, but violence isn't the answer.

  41. Some insights that I had as i went through the questions is that I don't think i would have made it if I were Melba or any of the other 8 students integrating in Central High I wouldn't have make it. I would have gotten angry and said something back or I would of given up. I find it weird that the teachers wouldn't protect them since at this school teachers are real protected. I understand how Melba must felt her first day because when I transferred to Nightingale I felt very nervous too and I knew nobody was going to bully me and she knew what was coming her way. I think they are all very brave for going through this and not letting anyone get in their way of fighting for what they really wanted. I think her advice is real good because if you want to change something the best way to do it is in a non violent way. And anything is possible if we really want it to happen.

  42. Some of the insights that I had as I went through the questions were how she had so much pacience to deal with all the racist white people at Central High. I think Melba's experiences were interesting because after so many threats and violence she continued assisting to school. I think it was pretty cool how she got a taste of the North side and her Nice welcoming white "Family". Melba's advice was inspiring because she said that a change in the world begins when you look at your self in the miorror and realize what you want. Also how she said that it all begins by " looking at the children and adults next to you as equals--and that you are being seen as equal."

  44. Based on the interview i think that Melba's experiences are very frightening and at the same time interesting. What i really thought that was interesting was when Melba said that she got the strength from his mom and grandma but the most strength came from god. Her grandma always said to her that god is everywhere, and that god was always with her.Another thing that was interesting was when Melba said that she liked being in the media spotlight for some time but later it became kinda hard to answer all the questions the reporters asked her.Today she thanks those reporters because they saved their lives. The reporters inspired her and that made her want to be a reporter. When i read Melba's advice i was shocked by her words, because she is trying to tell us that we can all make a difference. Also that we should greed each other and know each other, and get along because we are all equal;].She inspired mexD

  45. Some insights that I have about the questions are that almost all of the questions talk about how she felt in central high.Or how did she feel. What I think of her advice is that it is not to be discriminating to the person next to you. To treat then how you would like to be treated. As your equal. What I think about her experience is that I think she is a brave woman because she didn't give up she fought, she didn't care what the white people said.how she didn't give up because of all her grandmother and mother have thought her.

My thoughts about reading this was that Melba wasen't just a teenage black girl , she was a teen girl that wanted whites to teart her good and take her in like she is. She dirent want to change the way she is for nobody, she wanted a good education and be happpy in a school that has better aportunities. Maybe some people pickd on her but she believe that would change. What i think about Melba's experiences are that she was stoung going truh what she did, even if people treated her like if she wasent nothing, she still dirent gave up; she had her family that loved her and that made her strounger.

When melba finish central high Little Rock closed the schools the following year rather than have them integrated, so I spent a whole year out of school waiting for the NAACP to take the case through the Supreme Court. Melba moved to the north and find a new family. She lived with a white family when she lived there with them she said there was nothing to be frightened of.

some insights as i was looking through the questions are that they are all based on the book"warrior's don't cry." i think she gives pretty good advise. she is like the advise queen.

some insights that i have when i read the stuff about Melba is that she got bullied somewhat. I noticed that the teachers didnt do anything to her they just ignored her if she needed help for some reason. The thing that really helped Melba out were the soldiers that protected him. Melbas experience was preety hard in that scool is what i know of.

  51. I think that most questions were probably easy for her to answer. Some questions probably brought her to tears. For example the one that says "Did you find a new family in the North?" I think that Melba's experinces were harsh. She had a harsh childhood. I think it was probably hard for her to get used to a new place. She was probably very outgoing towards trying out new things. She was brave to go to Central, knowing that the students there would be rude and disrespectful. She is brave. Her experinces were frightening and unfair.

  52. Melba’s experience were difficult during that racial time they were critized when they went to different places that were not black public places they were called name. Melba’s thinking of first going to central high was trying to look good like how she was gonna go dressed. Melba’s 1st reaction when she went to central high she was treated badly. They were called n****** or dogs because of there skin color. Melba at central high was bad for her because everything was going bad in that schools because only 9 black could of go to that school and the rest was white. Some white people were bystander because they never did nothing to help black and some were upstander because some did help blacks . melba was protected by some white people like the mob. Melba reaction to her life was bad and some good because she was mostly protected by the president.

  53. The insights i wen through wen reading the questions are that those questions they asked her had to be kind of basically detailed and her feelings for them. Also that she must of felt scared or she would have really recognize what happen to her or on how she really felt. I think that maybe melba did really now how to answer each question with several detailed and with motion or really deep feelings. I think that melbas advice was basically about how she really felt and how she comfronted her fear or her nervousness. Also i say or think that melba really showed how she felt in the beginning and how she then started changing and seeing the things a little bit differently. Like at the beginning she looked scared and not well protected. But as she went on and tried to ignore the things she dint like she then got a little more constant and more well protected.

I think that the questions were intresting the one that shoked me the most was when after the one year she was in Central High she didn't go back because they closed down the schools and she spent one year waiting to go back to school then she had to lieve to Santa Rosa, California because of The Ku Klux Klan. All of the 9 kids left somewhenre else to be safe. Another one was when she was in the new place their was all these white people outside the plane and they huged her she realized those where the NAACP. She was lieveing with white people Doctor and Mrs. George McCabe they became a mom and dad to her she had white brothers and sister who treated her right she was no longer in fear. Till this day their in her life. I feel that with everything that happend and every bad name calling at the end she never gave up. She took the risk to go to an all white school and she knew how bad segregation was & the 9 of them took a big risk. This made her who she is today.

  55. I think Melba really went through alot when she entered Central High School. I think she was really brave to go to that school even thought she knew what she was about to encounter. Her advice is really good.

"I hate these people! What are they doing to me?" . This quote is important because this is how Melba felt when she entered the school. She thought to herself that she hated these people was probably just a fact.Even though they were extremely violent toward her.She survived at Central because of her Mother's and Grandmother's advice.Telling her to believe in god that you live and breathe and have your strength in Him. With out her mothers nd grandmothers advice she would have quit the first day she stepped in the classroom.

I've noticed she had hope most people gave up on stuff and are either scared or really mad. but Melba was still joys and hopeful maybe she believed god would help in her time of need. she also wasn't scared of going to central. she wanted to go there. i guess she was a hero like Rosa Parks.

Some of my insights were that white people were so mean to them especialy since they staretd integrating the school Central High School. I think she went throught alot especially when she went to the school they would treat her so bad even teh people that were first nice to her treat her bad because they would be bullied around by other people becuase they would be nice to her an dthat the teachers came at her with bats and bricks and that they would slap her and spit on her. She said that that is not how people behave.

  59. Some insights that I had when I read throgh the interview were how she left her family and went to the north side to live with a new family. Also her advice to the young people for how to change the world. Some of the advice she gave were to not judge or think bad about people with out knowing them because she doesn’t want racism to occure again how it did happen to her during the time she lived in Little Rock Arkansa. What I think about her experiences is that she went through a lot because whites would insult her, treat her and blacks different because they were colored. This made me realize that people shouldn’t discriminate or stereotype without knowing the person.

  60. while i was reading her reponse to those questions i was like "WOW"0: i thought she was just going to answer the basics like everyone else would but she realy went deep into it. whe i was reading the part where she wrote "But as a child you don't really understand until they happen to you."i related it to my own life because we do that to it dont only happen to her or to black ppl it happends to everyone so i stood there re reading it and i was like "dayum" this girl actually had the guts to go in to that school and intergrate it i admire her.

once i was done reading all the questions of melba's interview. my insights on the questions are that mostly all the questions the reporters asked melba was based on central hight such as "what made u dicide to go to central high", it touches down on the book warriors dont cry. i think melba's experiences were shocking by all the abuse the white kids did to her in cental high and how she felt about that. her advice is really supportive because she says fallow ur dream and you will acomplish that dream.

  62. melba was a girl that was dicrimanated in central high just kuz she was black. Wat i thought baout how shesk felt da first day of skewl she saiddk dat she felt frightensfk like any other child going to a new skewl she didnt kho how to dress or how to wear her hair she was afraid dat people kuld judge her. she was also scared dat peoplek whould harm her. i think she was ral brave to go tru dat witout no vilonce i think i kuldent hav done it wit no vilonce . she wanted to go to central kuz it was her neiborhood skwl.

Some insights i had as i went through the questions were that when she first went to Central High the students there were quite hostile and some were very sweet and tried to be civil. Another thing that really in sighted me was that the teachers in Central High really didn't support students their. In my opinion teachers should be the first persons to support students in school. They didn't even protect them inside their own classrooms. To me, that's just wrong and rude. What i think of Melba's experiences is that she went through a lot during the time she was in Central High. She had to keep up with all the non sense and whites not wanting african americans. Her experiences she had were tough and she didn't deserve to go through what she went through. She found the strength in her Grandmother and her mother's teachings. But her main one was God. She had great advice for young kids that want to change the world, she said to tolerate the people who are near you, treat people as equal and nothing else. (''It begins with your respect for someone that you disagree with'').

  64. While reading the questions and the answers Melba has given I saw how she managed to survive in Central and the things that made her strong aswell as willfull. Melba had alot of experiences while in central but somehoe her faith in god managed to keep her strong. Im certain that any other person that would have been in Melbas place might have lost there faith and the will to go back to central. She gave good advice to us on how to view people as our equals and learn to befriend and respect those who dont agree with us.

  65. some insights that i have is that wen melba was going to central she had some rough times there and the thing she was going through with the segregation where she lived hurtful to her and to me just to see how it was then from now its juST CRAZY but what was the crazyest thing was that they shut all the schools down because the did not want blacks at whites schools. and she had to leave her home and live with a white family.

  66. Some insights that I have as I read the questions is if she tought it was going to be easy for the integration to happen or what.Another insight I had was wheter or not she felt strange and upset on how her parents reacted upon hearing the news she was going to integrate in to Central. When I read her expirence I was amazed at how much she had to go threw. For one to hear that only some were nice yet soon they weren't amazed me. To go to a big school you'd expect some one to be as open minded and not racist towards you but looking at her expirence I guess not. I also found her advice to be unique. She says in a manner to tolerate people which I have seen she had to very much.

  67. I feel that through her fights she is very strong. I think that she did overcome her fears as a child. I feel that from her experience she helps others think positive other than negative even though she had hard times.I think that she became more of a lady in her younger years because of all the things she went trough and now she is above and beyond and she's not afraid.I feel that she produce hope for younger people because she never talks about her being better she talks about the world being better in so many ways. I think that it helps to think that just because of your race you can still accomplish your dream. And Melba is giving off so much HOPE

  68. 1)some of my insights i had were that she was asking her self silly questions bc even if we do always worry bout how we look or wat to do so we can fit in she had a bigger problem. she should of been asking herself what she could do so that she wont be THAT mistreated. she did not know racism led to racism if she had asked herself how she saw it in the news was apperiance really important.? i think that Melba is a strong african american bc she took so much crap from the other students she walke away knowing it was the right thing to do while other kids would of started a fight.

  69. Some insights that I had when I was reading through the questions was that I felt bad sorry for her that she had to go through all of that. As she grew up she wanted was to have a normal life. She worried about other things regular teenage girls worry about on the first day of school. She didn’t get the normal life just because she wanted to go to an all white school. For example, in question number three, it ask how did her friends and family react to her going to Central High, and her respond was that her family thought they were going to anger the white people. Some of the black people thought that it was ok on what she was doing. Others feared they would loose their jobs and they were right. As soon as white people found out there were black people going to an all white school, black people started to loose their jobs and everybody started to blame it on Melba. Melba made some sacrifices just to go to Central High and yet she was mistreated. After she went after all that, she still had to leave her family behind and go to California because the Ku Klux Klan were after her and wanted to lynch her. As I read the questions I notice that Melba never had a normal life.

  70. My insights are that Melba experinced many bad things and had to be supporting alot of questions from reporters and people. Also it was hard enough for her to go to a school were she wasnt wanted and she still have to support this awful questions.I thhink melbas responce to this question was ignoring them or answering them negatively.I think all of Melbas problems because she choose to enter central high and because of segregation. I think some of Melbas advice towards the people was never let people treat you bad and if they do thats part of life no one in life said life would be easy. Also if you never try something new you might regret it later.

  71. One of the insights I had was that Melba went to Central High because it was closer to her neighborhood.Melba also wasn't mad she just didn't tell them anything. She called them "the whites" because back then they had the power toward the black people.Melba then had to go to the north because the school had closed the second year she and the other eight students also went away because they were running away from the Klu Klux Klan. The only problem was that they had followed them. I think that Melba's experiences were really harsh because of how the white people treated them. I think that Melba gave good advise about just being kind to people and treating them equal.

What are some insights that you have as you went through the questions? What do you think about Melba's experiences and her advice?

Based on Melba's interview as an adult,my insights and accurate understanding about Melba is that she's really strong because she became strong after such weakness and shyness. Thats why she's one of the most strong African American women. I also understand that Melba is super intelligent because she decided to enter Central High.

  73. Some of my thoughts about the interview with Melba was that she is very strong when she was at central high because she went thourgh alot of racism things like name calling and ect. I think what Melba said "Changing the world begins when you look in the mirror and you know who you are and you realize your connection with the universe" is very good advise because thats like inspiring people to stop thinking negative about them self and to see who you are and what you can do to change the world.

  74. That the in hurtfull things that had she been through melba , was that one question i did was what were thinking and felling on the first say of central high ? which was here answer was that she was hopefull that nothing would go wrong and that she was also scared ,and thinking on her physicla herself on how she should go ,that she has suffered like 15 yrs on rasim and trhat she dont care that what they say about her. whiich also she was an dreamer ,on traveling to places, which also that black people would be treated better ,and aslo more respect. For example, in question number three, it ask how did her friends and family react to her going to Central High

  75. i thought that Melba went threw a lot in he age. she risked her life just to get the education that she wanted she never gave up and that shows that shes strong and will accomplish anything that she can.yes their was times when she wished she never went to school but time were she would think about it and go for the good of her.it is was hard to her not to be scared of even walking in that school full of people that want to kill her is like going inside a lions cage.i admire her strong attitude.
