This last weekend I had the chance to go to the National World War II Museum. It was really an incredible experience. I learned a lot, but two pieces of information really stood out for me. There was one exhibit that focused on how Jews who lived in America contributed to WWII. To see me share what I learned from that exhibit, click below:
The second piece of information that I never knew was that by the year 1939, the United States Army was ranked number 19 (just behind Bulgaria) in terms of strength. The United States was definitely not ready to fight (much less lead) in World War II. It had a peacetime military that still relied on old technology. The picture to the left from the museum contains little soldiers, aircraft figures, and ships to show powerful each country was by 1939. With the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, most Americans finally realized that the United States could no longer remain neutral in World War II. Before this point, many Americans were split over tbe idea of the United States going to war. Imagine it is 1939. You are an average American. Would you be for or against America getting involved in WWII?
Here is the information you have to help makeup your mind:
- You are a young adult male/female with little money and no job (thanks to the lingering effects of the Great Depression)
- You lost an uncle in WWI. He was poisoned to death in a foxhole by mustard gas.
- You've read about how the Americans are extremely unprepared for war.
Write one paragraph telling me what you would do and why. Take into account all of the information that you have to make up your mind and explain it it factored in your decision-making.
what i would do is feel like ;lost and sad because i had lost a family member specially was in ww1 which was a death for a reasoon which was important for our country ,but still sad inside. The people that were the enemies and killed my uncle with pioson with mustRD Gas was like ill ratherm liked my uncle blind than dead which can help and that i would of do is i had heard that my uncle was dead i would feel a little NGER AND REVENGE BECAUSE IT REALLY HURTS THINKING OF AN LOST FAMILY MEMBER AND IN AN WAR .
ReplyDeleteIf i was an american living during WWII, i don't think i would join the war. I wouldn't join, because even if i had little money and no job, i'd be scared. War isn't a pretty thing, i wouldn't be strong enough to watch people dying all the time. I couldn't be a witness to the murders of people i may know, of children and total strangers, who are the brothers, sisters, sons , daughters, aunts and uncles of someone else. I would be against america joining the war. I wouldn't want my father or brother to be drafted, so i could only imagine others would fear their family members being drafted. I also wouldn't join the war because of the fact that american's are not prepared. If america isn't prepared for war, signing up for WWII is practially suicide. Axis countries have already made time to create, good weapons, and create a very large army. American's would practially be signing their death certificate. I would not support the war.
ReplyDeleteI think that America getting involved in world war 2 was a good choice. I think this because America cant just stand around doing nothing to protect their people. Many lives were lost in the bombing of Pearl Harbor and i dont think that anyone was happy with that in America.We didnt even do anything to anyone. So that is why i think that America getting involved with the war was a good choice.

The reason would be because were not prepared for it and we don't have enough money to be buing weapons, or pay for the damages being made.The reason why i think that is because like in WWI we weren't prepared, we didn't have the technology needed aqnd we didn't have the efficiant money needed to cure the wunded people.
ReplyDeleteI realy am against violence but in this case it seems I might of actualy wanted for a war. The drepesion would end. Still I will know I'm in danger of getting into the war. Plus I to will feel great sadness for my uncle being inforced with the fact of not being ready due to the Pearl Harbor event. Yet if we didn't do anything who knows what the depresion will lead to. That's why I encourage the war.

The reason I am for America getting into the war is because we could get the economy better by producing much needed weapons to buy. I am for America getting into the war because I could avenge my Uncle who died in the war. I am for America getting into the war because it could help me get money to pay for things during or after the war.

Speacially how the economy was how was your family going to survive with out the head of the family and you never know what will happen if you'll be alive or dead. Never knowing what to expect.

Another reason I would be against WW2 is because families are losing brothers , fathers , cousins , uncles in WW2 because America can't afford good military materials that soldiers need , for ex. food and weapons .

i would go against america going to war because i've lost my uncle in WW11 and i would not like to see my dad or other family members be killed or servely wounded. America shouldnt go to war because it would depressing to see my dad or older brother come back dead or servely wounded.

In war lots of people die yes we are defending ourselves but we our loosing American lives. We are loosing a brother, and unlce,grandfather,cousin,a friend,and or a husband. ReplyDeleteI lost my uncle in WW1. It was devistating but things happen. He was the captain. I never thought that this would happen to any captains in WW1, but it. The reason I think this happened was because of the fact that he wasnt careful enough to see and was not paying attention of what was going on around him.

If i was alive by that time i would of gone to the war because i would of gone to go surve for my country and i wanted to let the jews free and also i would raised a little bit of money during the war but i would also try to keep myself alive.
I would be with the war because of three reasons. One, after having no job for so long, I would gladly get a job working at shipyards or doing the paper work in offices. The U.S. was in needfor jobs and a boost in our econmy, and the war would do just that. Two, after WW1 many people lost family members because of Germany's milatary forces, we could not let that happen again. We had to stop them before the rest of our family was a victum of yet another war. And last three, sure we were unprepared, but this was are chance to show the rest of the world that we won't let ourselves be pushed around, even though our milatary wasn't as strong as Germany's or Japan's milatary, we weren't going to sit their anymore and take it. We had to stand up for ourselves.

ReplyDeleteI would be completly against the war because, not only would we lose thousand of people we arent prepared for another war. We are barely recovering for World War 1, and just because the war could give us more jobs doesn't mean a thing. You would rather have jobs and lose people or keep the loved ones and get out of the depression the old fashion way. We would eventually get out of the depression, if we were to open up factories to make weapons for either side and have them buy it from us that would get us out of the depression. We dont have to join a war for us to create more jobs and oppertunities, thats our decision and we often choose poorly. I would be completly against the war, thousands of people lost just to boost our economy that seems selfish to me.

Even though family died they died with pride. The Germans knew war would break out so they were ready for anything. We had a reason because we came into war out of no where.

If America got in the war maybe it would be the push we need in order to get out of the depression. I would try to give the things that I don’t need for the war to help. I know that America isn’t ready to withstand the war but we can’t let people suffer like the people in concentration camp. We just can’t people die for the wrong doings of the Nazis.

ReplyDeleteIf I was a american back in 1939, I would be for it that we go to war with Japan. I say this because us americans are known to be brave and powerful when it comes to wars. So we should defenitly go to war. Other reason we should is that we just cant do nothing after Japan bombs us. Like what other chioce do we have, are we just going to stand here and do nothing; we are not cowards. But there are also some downsides if we go to war. 1.We might die and not see our families again. 2.We have little training with weapons and explosives. 3.What will happen after the war if we lose or win. Also we have no money and no job, what can we do. But if we go to war there will be jobs again and we will have money. We should also fight for the people who died in WW1. They died trying to stop the germans and now its our turn to stop them once in for all(Germany also because there are allies with Japan and Italy).

So based on the things i learn i really dnt get how the Germans would have done a horrible thing to Jews and kill them for no reason. To me that's like an horrible ugly thing to do without any reason to explain and kill them. I would have understood if they had and explanation and espicific things on why they kill them but like this with no reason is cruel. Thats why i am against that's and dnt understand how someone would do that.

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor where all the U.S. military was concentrated at with out the United States even knowing it so they couldn’t protect themselves. Why should we let them kill our military forces and we should not do anything about it. Now I wouldn’t like for one of my family members to get killed in the war, but you have to remember that people from the United States were killed by the people who were in WWII (Japan). Well as to the point that we weren’t prepared for war well we weren’t prepared for the attack of Pearl Harbor. I would be in agreement for the United States getting into WWII.

I would also join the war because of what happened to pearl harbor, and also for what happened to my uncle in WWI, in dedication of him, I would join the battle against Japan. This would also benefit to America’s way to be neutral. I would personally do all this because it won’t only help me, but also America. Pearl harbor, and my uncle will guide me to keep on fighting against the bad. I can motivate others to join the battle for the USA.

I feel that if that's how people feel they want to fight for their country even though you are not prepared you know and die konwing that I was one of those people who was going to be remebered as a saver to their country. But, once you relize that doing something good for your contry is not bad at all and to figure that you have people being bystanders everyday and in this situation I would be the one to put a stop to it because i feel that you can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it
ReplyDeleteIf it was 1939 I would not be against America getting involved in WWII. Because it's an example of being a bystander and thats what were learning not to be. Even if people we know or one of our family members suffered through world war I, I would still want America to fight for the libereation of these Jews and help the Allies through this. America had poor recourses but a little is better than nothing and it is good to help the countries that need us so they can help us when we need them. Even if we will also be affected here, maybe it wont be so bad and just how in world war I all the women got jobs then it could happen again and we can all get our jobs back and it will benefit us in some way.

I wouldnt care if the Army wasnt trained for the war or well perpared for it. What would make me join it more is that the i had no money because of the Great Depression. If we go to war without being prepared we barely have a chance at beating the Axis Powers. ReplyDeleteI would join the army and fight for my uncles lost and the united states because me just joining the army would make a big different and would help us win the war.I would have join the war because its the right thing to do and if i wasnt then i'll probly have to live with the thoughts of knowing i could of did some thing,but choosed not.If i probly want to join w could have lost the war and the nazi could have probly took over and brobly take over every race on the world since their army was big.
ReplyDeleteThats a Rhetorical question of course i would be on the Us side but if this was a war with US against the country i was born in than there would be a problem with my desicion.other than that i despise communism i like that power but its bad the worst form is Fascism which hitler was in he created his own Nazis
ReplyDeleteI would go to the war because they had hurt many of us and even do we dont have much armor atleast we are not giving up because we satnd for our nation no matter wat we arenationalism for our country.We might even win the war because we are with the allies and they will help us when were in depression because we helped them win the war so they have to give us some help too.Also if my uncle died in ww2 atleast he died for saving his country not justof beinga criminal like the germans did with the jews and the polish
ReplyDeleteI think its a bad idea because it was horible in ww1. so why would it be any beter.so thats what i think and plus our military isnt even ready. so i thinkitll be worse im especially thinking the mothers and children left behind by the husband and or dad and possibly never see him again.And thats a horible sight and feeling trust ive seen it before but less worse.
ReplyDeleteno i would not go into world war two even though my uncle died in world war one.Because then maybe then i would get shot n die also and there wont be no honor in dieing for vengence for the death of my uncle.
ReplyDeletei would go into ww2 bec i have to revenge the death of my uncle and make him proud by servin g the country.even tho that it would be a bad idea to get into the war bec u might die. and try my best and hope not to die.
ReplyDeleteI will be in the war because i would have anger for all the times they huted me or one of my love ones. That will take out my anger, even if we dont win it would help. I think theres chances we can win, if we believe, but we have to have faith.
ReplyDeleteI would be with the war because,after having no job for so long, I would happly get a job working at something. The U.S. was in need for jobs and a boost in our econmy and the war would do just that.Also WW1 many people lost family members because of Germany's milatary forces. We had to stop them before the rest of our family was a victum.Finally we were unprepared, but this was are chance to show the rest of the world that we won't let ourselves be pushed around. We had to stand up for ourselves and help the reast of the world.

ReplyDeletei think if the our army needs help of solders our people kould replace solders that have never been there.and if we know that we dont have alot men why get in war.is like putting the meat in front of a hungry lion he ant goin to look at it he is funa eat it.
