So, as I was reading and preparing to formally introduce the Holocaust and World War II to all of you, I came across an interesting article for all of you that saw the play. Amazingly, there is one person who is still alive who worked on a newspaper in Terezin. For those of you who do not remember, out of the 15,000 kids sent to the camp, only about 100 survived. After surviving Terezin, this man also survived Auschwitz (the death camp); it is pretty amazing that this man is alive. I included the link to article that I read about him. If you are interested in Writing extra credit, you need write a brief summary of the article and your thoughts by Jan 8th.

This article is about this guy named kraus and when he was a boy he was seperated from his parents,and his parents were killed. He was sent to Auschwits were he was with many boys his age waiting for their deaths. Some of the boys made a magazine that included how they starved and how they missed their families. They did this to pass their time knowing that they might be killed doing the magazine. After the war ended kraus, age 15, was freed. Now hes 80 and lives in the United States. To me i think he is lucky to be alive because he wasnt picked to be killed and after the war because he was alive he was freed.I never knew that their was still a Holocaust survinor out their, and now i know that their is and theirs only one.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the play there were kids playing hide and seek at a camp. Then a train came wish more people and dropped of more kids now there were eight kids.
ReplyDeleteUsually when they hear a train coming they hide in there own hiding places. Then when all the kids got to know each others lives.
They all started articles to let people know how there lives are at that camp. they wanted people to know the trouble they were in.
Americans were at war with the Nazis. So Nazis moved people to other camps. one of the boys stayed behind because he was hiding.He cried because he was all alone. When Americans won the war,the boy went to join the others. I think i would be really scared if i was in that situation. It is very hard to survive when there is war. I wish that there is always peace in the world and not have to go through all the things that happened in world war two.
I think that it was weird that that the man found out that a man that wrote the newspaper lived only a couple blocks away from him. It also surprised me that the boy after the war was set free.

Dr. Michael Grodin who spent the past 33 years studying about Holocaust and other atrocities. The boys, ages were 12 to 14 patched together the magazines from scraps of paper.

ReplyDeleteIt's pretty amazing that Gordin went on a trip to Israel and found these magazines in a museum exhibit made from these boys without adult super vision that had pranks and soccer matches, even wilderness adventures for boys 12-14, so later Gordin goes and meets the sole survivor who is Kraus which now is 80 yrs. old that he now understood his childhood war experience like when he was 12 yrs. old they took his family even him and about two dozen 12, 13,and 14 yr. olds had to share a 3 bunk bed and the people say they support his experience like a treasure for them and that's what I learn about this article and the people from Israel that i had read about:).
ReplyDeleteWELL WHAT I READ WAS ABOUT BOY THAT SURVIED DURING THE HOLUCOST AND HOW HE SURVIED.WELL I THINK HE IS LUCKY THAT HE SURVIED BECAUSE AFTER THAT HITLER THROW BOMBS ALL OVER THE PLACE.AND HOW HE WAS TREAD IT ON THE CAMPS HE COULD NOT EVEN READ BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT ALLOW TO GET AN EDUCATION.AND THEY DID NOT EVEN GET MUCH TO EAT SO SOME DIE BECAUSE THEY NEED IT FOOD,WATER AND WHIT OUT THOSE THINGS YOU WILL NOT SURVIE.
ReplyDeletei think it was interesting because it talked about the holocaust and what happend to the kids on the camps.I also think it was interesting and i really like it because i know if a was in their place i would do the same they did.i will like to know more about because it interested to me.I also think it was a bad to them because the kids might had not survived and didn't had what they needed.
ReplyDeleteI think another thing I like was the way some survived and also how this student from boston college remembered what he lived in their.I really think that really was bad and sad to them for some not surviving.So yeah i really like it .For me it interesting this passasege about the holocaust.
The Article was about a reacher who found out a survior from the Halocaust lived close to him and he decided to go chat with him. The article contained information about his past life and how he made a "magazine". The contents of that however were cartoons to make other prisoners laugh. He ralks about how he lost his parents at the age of 14. The article also says what the man did after the Halocaust......

And how the magazines all talked and showed the adventures they would dream of and how they thought of pranks. besides he also found the soul survivor who lived 3 blocks away from his house.
ReplyDeleteWonderful..... I feel that reading this and learning that a man survived. And is now doing big and better and not stoping because of the stuff that he went through at a young age.Having to be seperated from his parents, being the only child, and learning that if you put your mind to it you can do whatever.And that's how he was when him and other chilidren kept the newspaper going. I feel that by him wittnessing all of the dealth's that happened and still standing is so fasinating because it feels to me that he is a survivor just like my mom and if I ever got to see him I would cry because to me he is a really great guy. And knowing he never gave up......speechless<3

ReplyDeleteyoung students discovering Kamarad.that means thatyoung studentsdont even wantedto die that young ones did survive and the others that die worent that many strong . kids use the magazine to fight their boredom and calm their anxiety so they did think of what they used.
i think that book was pretty sad but cool and i like it.
i think the article was good but sad at the same time. It talked about how the kids wrote newspapers and passed them out. Some even wrote poems and recited them to each other. I also read that this boy in boston college was one in the camp and he survived.I also know that if i were there i wont like it and i think i wont survived in the camp.
ReplyDeleteof my thoughts about the blog is that were hittler was .i thought he was a mean person but its more than that hes like a torchore person.he puts people in danger and taking them into to camps.hittler never got what he wanted .when he killed himself ,we won and this story is likle about kids who were in the camps .they know how it feels like.when they were writing a news paper they would get in trouble because they had to ask a authorized person,.

He had wrote it so that he would take away his boredom. He let other people in the camps borrow them but he would get mad because they wouldn't return them. When he was 14 his parents were sent to other camps to get killed his life was spared and was sent to other camps to run errons and then he left to his home to try to rebuild his life

He talks about how he use to have a good life before the Nazi came and broke up his family. He also talkes about how the paper started out and how it was put together. The articule also talks about how this newspaper inspires children because kuids their own age wrote it. I thought this articule was good because it talks about what one of the few survivors from the Holocaust went through.
ReplyDeleteThe holocaust is about jews dieying because hey are starving to death because hitler wants all the jews dead.Also that jews had to worked in hard labor so the germans could ave more power over them.Then children that were jews were killed in gas chambers or even non jews just because they could not work no more.that before the holocaust happened kids enjoyed reading magazines and play by the sea but now when they were in the holocaust they are all afraid of dieying and just thinking about staying alive.
ReplyDeleteWell this article really showed a person who stumbled upon one of the most interesting pieces of all time. This studying person of the holocaust found that some or only one person survived this massacre and also had access to the newspapers that the children had made in the camps. Some things that I found interesting about this article was how the kids really interacted in the camps, how to have fun, how to cure boredom, and from an actual holocaust survivor. So really, this is really an interesting real article.

ReplyDeleteThis article was about a boy named Kraus he was one of the 100 of children that survied holocaust.His life was good before they took him away.He lived with his mother and father.They killed his father in gas chamber were he was killed.His mother also was dead.He was know alone with no more family.The war finally was over and he was freed.He left to another country.He went to Canada he got married.I think it was too little kids left in the holocaust whoch is very sad. Some kids were free but didnt have a family because they were died.

And I think it was a good idea that the kids stuck in the camps would sometimes try to forget the situation they were in and try to be kids again. I think they also risked their lifes by doing this. But now we can learn what was happening at that time to these kids and everyone else around.

ReplyDeleteThe article was about Dr.Michael Grodin he studied or 44 years the holocaust.When he found out that one person that had an experience with nazis.He found "Kamarad" the meagazine in a museum.He found out that one of the boys that wrote that book survived and was still alive.The most interesting thing was that this dude lived three blocks away from dr.michael gordins house.Then he called Michael Kraus who is now 80.They both started meeting.They started talking about "kamarad" how the boys created it.They drew pictures and wrote what was happening and then their moms would put sting through it.He was saved because he was put in a camp.The rest of the boys were sent to the smokestacks.I think that this article is interesting because its amazing how someone that lived through such a hard time is still alive today.And even more amazing how he kept the magazine that he created with the other boys.

He discovered a magazine called Kamarad that was written by the Natzis boys in a Jewish ghetto camp. Grodin was impressed how the boys created the book that expressed their fantasies, and how they deal with the hard ship of the Holocaust. Grodin noticed something incredible. One of the creators of Kamarad was a survived living in Brookline Massachusetts. He met the man called Kraus, because he wanted to know how some people could go through such suffer and maintain a normal life. Kraus now 80 years old explained to Grodin how his friend Polak stared with the idea of Karamad. They stared with some fictional stories, some true stories and some poems .They were writing about illnesses, punishment and everything they went through They used the magazine to think about an imaginary scape and to help them to maintain a sense of normality in their lives. This article explain how the Israeli recognized the Kamarad as something worth preserving and studying and how Susy Rodenstein envisions an educational program around Kamarad to Boston area Students. My thoughts are that the article was very interesting, because Grodin let me know that there was only one survivor that past through all that horrible stuff and he still lives a normal life.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this article I too was surprised that a Holocaust surviour still lives today. Whats more amazing is that he too participated in the Kamard magazine. I just wonder if anyone he knew in the camps, still lives today as well. I also wonder how he feels about being interviewed about his past. Also if he has any memories from before the Holocaust.
ReplyDeleteA man named Grodin studied the holocaust for a long time. To his surprise he found a man that survived the camps and took part in writing the Karmarad lived 3 blocks from his house. The man’s name is Michael Kraus is 80 years old. In the middle of December Kraus his parent were sent to the camps. When he moved to room Q609 he met an old friend that would later come up with the idea to write Karmarad. They would write stories to about fiction and nonfiction. His parents were both killed. Kraus was spared and he had to work at the men’s camp instead. When the war was over he was 15 and tried to rebuild his life in Nachod. He gave his diary to a museum and later moved to Canada then later came back to the U.S.

ReplyDeleteThis article was about this guy Kraus.His parents were killed and he was sent to the death camp.He beleve on surviving but only about 10% survived.ANd he was one of those lucky ones.He is now in his 80's and wrote his diary which is now very famous!I feel and think this is preety amazing and good luck that he survive
ReplyDeleteThis article was about this one guy who survived the holocaust.Then later on was found by one man who studied the holocaust.It yhad been surprising because the man who survied the holocaust just lived three bolocks away from him.The article was about how he and his parents were send to a consentration camp.Then as time passed they all got seperated.After that he was then srnt to a diff. camp and had meet with some of his old friends.Him and his friends then started to write a news paper named "Karmarad".The news paper they wrote were about how they lived in the camps and how they were being treated.The reason why they had wrote that paper was so that if they died people might find it and learn about it.The years passed and he was then freed.After being freed he donated hi diary to a musuem and went to schools to teach kids about the holocaust how it was being in there and how he survived.
