I Never Saw Another Butterfly
As part of our Holocaust presentation, some 8th grade Nightingale students performed a play that showed the hopes, dreams, and daily activities of children in the Terezin Concentration Camp.
Butterflies Project
These butterflies will be sent to a Holocaust museum in Texas to commerate the death of 1.5 million children during the Holocaust.
The show was pretty good because instead of just reading it we got to actually see it. it was amazing how they did everything like that. i found that the most intresting. The book was good also but it was hard to see all the things in the book. It just seemed a tiny bit cunfusing to me. The why they had littlest one act like that was amazing and even how she looked. It just matched with the character perfectly.
ReplyDeleteWhat I thought about the book was that it was really boring and confusing. I didn't really get it and whenever we started reading it I would get sleepy. But the play was more entertaining and I understood it better because it showed us more and made me understand it better. So I think it was good that we got to do both, read the book and watch the play so that we could really understand it. So i did think the play was better and more entertaining. It also helped us understand more and learn more about the characters because we really got to see the way they acted and the way they looked. John in the play confused me though becasue i didn't know if the character was a boy or a girl. But still it was more interesting and helped me understand better Gossamer since i didn't really get it when we read the book.
ReplyDeleteI think the show was most interesting because the people in the play were acting just like the characters in the movie, and it was interesting to see people acting like the gossamers in the book. In the book it wasent as interesting because it didnt show the characters or give any examples on how they look,but on the play they showed how they are supposed to look.
ReplyDeleteWhat I thought about the book is that it was very interesting and cool.But I was still confused about what they were.The book was like a mystery to me.Now the play it was better than the book cause we didnt have to read.And it was a better picture in what they looked like.It was also was a fun play to watch.I think the character that played John was a good act in how she acted him out.I was also suprised when I found out that it was really a girl acting out Johns part.So I would say that the play was way better than the book.
ReplyDeleteWhat I thought of the play was that it was intresting on how they dressed and how they bestow there dreams too people. The book was okay because it described everything okay but they didn't show there appearance. The one that i htought was the most intresting was the play because it showed how the characters looked like. Also how the sinisteed looked like. I also liked the play because i preffer to see gossemer instead of read it.
ReplyDeletewel wat i think was better is the show because reading the book in the class for 40 min. is to boring.i usually prefer goin to a filed trip to go see the show wit the whole clas mates and have fun then staying in the class boring reading the book.also i like the show because thier was some lady tha i thought itwas a lil kid until i found out dat iswas a lady it was funny bout dat character dat how it speaks n talks bout guns and all those things.aslo i really enjoy the play is was really kool but boring at times .wel dats all i got to say laterz!
ReplyDeleteWhat I thought of the book was that it was a really good book. It was interesting, I could imagen Littlest One and Thin Eardly walking through the house and bestowing dreams. But the play was more interesting because you could see the characters. I also understand the story more by seeing the play. It was cool it got more intersting by the when Littlest became the teacher of New Littlest. Then at bthe end when the actors sat down and we could ask questions.
ReplyDeleteThe part of the play that was most interesting was the characters because each chaacter has a different persinality like for example Littlest One was always so curious and full of joy, but the old lady was full of anger and had no patience for Littlest One at all. Each character in the story had their own hopes and dreams for the future like Littlest One wanted to find what she was and who she was. What I also found interesting was that the boy was full of fear and afraid of his childhood that will always hnt him for life. That's what I found most interesting in the story.

ReplyDeletei thought both the book and the play were pretty good. but i thought the play was more interesting because i got a visualization on how the characters move and feel. i thought that the person that played john was actually acting like a boy but she is actually girl.I thought that the lady that played littlest one had to have to express her emotions more that anyone at the performence.
ReplyDeleteI think that the book "Gossamer" was a good book because it wasnt that boring and it had a lot of detail. The little boy, John, was evil and had a mean attitude twards the lady. but it was funny(: At the end I didnt get it because, what happend to Johns mom and to the dream-givers?

In my opinion I thought that the book was more interesting because it was more specific on what happened to the characters. And all the problems they had in the story. And the characters seemed mysterious to me in the book. My opinion changed about the book because I thought that it was going to be boring but in was actually really cool. I liked the book because it was really funny in some parts. John was funny how he acted but he was hurt from the inside but that changed through out the book. But there was a part I didn't get which was the ending because it was confusing. And let us guessing about John's mom and him and also about Littlest one after she had grown.
ReplyDeleteWhat i think about the book and the show is that both of them were okay.! In the show i really liked it because it was kind of funny. But at times it was really boring. I think the show was interesting because it was colorfull. And because i liked costume of the horde.

ReplyDeleteFirst, what i think of the book was that it was a good book and in every charter it was getting better and better. Their was some good parts with John that were funny at times. It was a good interesting book. Now the play was more interesting because i could of seen what was going on, on the backround. It was more descripitve for me in a way because i could of seen what was going on. Littlest was the main one of the whole thing because she just didnt learned it easy she learned the hard way. Then she was a teacher so the new littlest one. And her new was "GOSSAMER".
ReplyDeleteI tought that the book gossamer was interesting because mostlty in the first chapters they introduced new characters.And it was kind of funny because john did alot of swearing to the old lady.And john invented alot of things about his family he said that his dad went to some other place to work and that hhis dad was goiung to buy him a new car better than his and that they lived in a mansion and that was all a lie and john hated the dog alot and he wouldnt givethe dog his treats so i tought it was a good and interesting story also when the dream givers came and gave some certain person.
ReplyDeleteI thought the book was beter thatn the play, because when I read the book I imagined how everything looked like. An the play I was just sitting there bored. I realy enjoyed the book and I would'nt mind reading it a second time.

The book only explains what happened ,and thats kind of boring, and its better in the show to actually see the whole story than to hear or read. I think this because the show actually showed action, and how the characters look like, insted of picturing how they might look like or how the act of the story will be.

i thought that both the book and the play were pretty good. but i thought the play was a little more interesting because i got a visualization on how the actors perform and how the feel.i thought that the person that played litllest one had to show her emotions more than any other actor/actress on gossamer.it was difficult for the person that played john because she was an actress and she needed tp play another gender but i think she was perfect for role of john.

ReplyDeleteFROM MY OPINION THE PLAY WAS THE MOST INTERSTING THING. I THOUGH THE PLAY PLAY WAS MORE INTERSTING THAN THE BOOK BECAUSE IN THE PLAY YOU COULD SEE EVERYTHING.. WITH EMOTIONG. ALSO BECAUSE I THINK THE BOOK DOESN'T REALLY EXPRESS AS MUCH FEELINGS, AND WELL IN MY VIEW POINT I UNDERTTAND BETTER THE PLAY BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING... AND IT THE BOOK YUO CAN'T!
I think that this book was real interesting.I also liked the details the author wrote.One of my favorite authors I liked was John because he was rude but in a funny way.Even if John was cold hearted he was still nice and sweet as a little kid should act or be.But my overall feeling about the book was that it was good and interesting.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the "GOSSAMER" was a fascinating book to read.It had details every single page i read.I recomened to all the people that are looking for a great book that makes them read more and more.Thats why I like reading the "GOSSAMER"!!!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWell I liked the book and the play both. They were both interesting. I enjoyed watching the play because there was alot of action. But in the play it was wierd because I thought John was really a boy but when it was over and the aacters introduced themselves she said her name was Victoria and i was like woah! But yeahh it was fun going to watch the play after reading the book.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I enjoyed reading the book "Gossamer". The play was interesting and very entertaing too.What I liked about the play was that you could see what everything going on and understand more about the characters and whats actually happining. I understood better but readind the book was different. I liked the book becuase when I was reading it I visualized it all in my head. The play was like watching tv, you just sit back and enjoy. But not much of your own ideas and the way you imaginedthings in "Gossamer" to be.
ReplyDeleteI thought the play was really good and so was the book. The book was great because it had so much more detail but it was also good to see it visuallyand get a live experience. The play skipped many parts that I think would have made the play more interesting. The book had so much detail that would have explain the story more because in some parts I was sort if confused by what they were talking about. I already knew the story after reading it and when we went to go see it I got really bored because there wasn't really anything exciting and they missed most of the really interesting parts of the story.
ReplyDeleteI think that the book was great it was very interesting.The show was really creative and funny I really did like it. It was fun to read the book and then go watch the show. But i like the book better because it had more events than the show did and it was more informative than the show. I think that the actors in the play were very good but the one i liked the most was littlest one. She would make laugh and she seemed like a really good actress.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion of the book is better than the opinion I have of the play. The play wasn't really what I expected, but I have to admit the actors were really good. I think the play was more for little kids and there wasn't really alot of action and we expected it to be more interesting. On the other hand, the book was good. It made me picture everything that was happeneing and I enjoyed it more than the play.
ReplyDeletepesenalt I thought the book was better than the play because, I had all this detaill for the background and the image of the charecters but it was all dismanteld when I saw the play it was a misunderstood meaning in my mind and so like I said before it was kinda disappionting watching the play. :(
ReplyDeleteThe book and the play were awesome. The chcracter were really believable. The play was better because you could see all that really happened. I acually knew what part in the story they wee in. For a second I believed john was a dude. It was so cool.
ReplyDeleteWell I think the book in general was a really good book.The author did a good job in describing the settings and the characters. I was able to imagine everything that was going on.Like I didn't go to the play i don't know which one was better, the book or the play, but from what I have heard I think the play might have been funnier than the book. I really liked the play because when we stopped reading I still wanted to read further through the book.
ReplyDeleteFrom the book and the show I think that the book was more interesting because it was more detailed. The play was okay but with the book you get to use your imagination and picture everything that is going on. It was fun to see the show and see everything move around, but in the show you dont really get to see everything. With the book you read every thing that is going on and understand why thing happen.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinoin I believed that both the play and the book were good. I found that the play was most interesting because I didn't know how they were going to do certain parts. For intance the dog, I didn't know how they were going to do that,I didn't know if they were going to have a real dog, a costume, or a robot. How they did that was interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was reading and listening to the book I was visualizing things how I thought they looked, but from the play I could tell that they viewed it differently. I thought that all of the characters were good especially John. It was interesting how they got a person that played John just like how i imagined him. That is what I thought about the book and the play.
The play was super interesting and awesome and the book was two. But the one I liked most was the play because it helped me really understand the story better and I really liked how victoria(John) acted she was awesome at acting. The character that really helped me understand the stgory and play was the mom it was like it was real life what was happening with John and hid mom.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, both the book and the play were good. However, I did not like the ending. It just ends on the fact that Littlest's new name is Gossamer and that's it. But all in all both were good. Personally, I enjoyed the book better. While I was reading book, I imagined things and viewed things how I wanted to see it. For example, I imagined the sinisteed much scarier than what the play showed us. In imagination, there's no limit to what things would look like. In real life, however, there's always a limit. Gossamer, both book and play, were interesting and entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the book better than the play. The reason why is because in the book you get more detail, you can visualize anything. At the play the actors did not give many lines like how they did not show when john and the old lady were at the park. The book is so much better than a play, movie, or something else since the book is the real thing. They dont miss out on anything giving you total information.I still liked the play. Though it was not as good as the book. It was funny and cool while reading the book because the students who tried reading the story out loud were funny while reading the book. =) *Enjoying the book*
ReplyDeleteAfter I saw the play I thought the book was better. When you read the book you use your imagination and could create how the characters look like. When I saw the play the charcaters seem different from what I imagen and that kind of burst my imagination. The play and the actors were good,but there wasn't really any action and in the book you read and imagen action. The book was better than the play.
ReplyDeleteI liked the book more because I could imagine how I thought the characters looked.In the pLay it was different beacuse the people lokked different than how I imagine the character to looked.Like for example I thought that Littlest was like little kid in the book but in the play it was like a bigger person.Also I thought the dog looked differnt in the book tahn in the play.Also I thought that the part were the dream givers face the sinisteed it was going to be longer n more interesting in the play but it was actully more interestin in the book.So I thought the book was better then the book.
ReplyDeleteWhat I thought was better was the book of Gossamer. I believe so because the book had way more detail than the play had. Like in the book the author described the setting very and like the moment very god to the point where i had a very huge picture in my mind. But in the play all it showed were the characters and their attitude and how their personality is. Although the setting and the the way the story was were different. I mean the play was okay I guess but i liked how the book was giving me a picture and how it was very informable. I liked reading the book and I hope there's a part two. Haha. John was funn though. But I thought the actor was really a dude!
ReplyDeleteThe "Gossamer" show was very impressive!There was a lot of detail put in the scenery and you could tell that the actors really enjoyed doing their job.The actor who played John did a great job acting because she had to act like an 8 year old boy when in reality it was a girl.There was also a lot of sound effects and the costumes were amazing!When the humans had a dream bestowed upon them, you could actually see what they were dreaming and they acted out a little part of it for us to actually visualize it.I would really like to see the "Gossamer" play again!

The book can be said differently and that's what can change the mood of the story. the play really helped visualize the scenes. like the boy John. He looked different than I had imagined. For an eight year boy, he looked older in the play.
ReplyDeleteFor my opinion I believe the book was the most interesting because in the play you can see the characters and how they were ment to be but in the book you have to use your imagination and think up the characters. Thats what I liked about the book the most but it doesn't mean I would read it again.
ReplyDeleteIn my view point I liked the novel instead of the show.There is more than one reason mainly because it was more detail.The show was great but it didn't have the feeling the character has.Plus the book makes you imagine more how the character is.

ReplyDeleteI think the play was better because it gave the kids a more realistic visual of the book and it felt so real. The play felt like the kids were reacting like if they were in real life. It was cool. The book was also great because the detail was precise and if you closed your eyes you could literaly vizualize what you read

ReplyDeleteGossamer was an interesting story. We read and saw Gossamer and in my opinion i liked the book better. I imagined how John looked(ghetto) and how the mom looked smoking. The book had more detail and kept you wanting to read morer. In the play you just saw people acting and you knew what was going to happen.

ReplyDeleteI thought the book was soooooooo much better than the play because it it more discriptive. Also because the book made you imagine every part of the story ,and the play was almost as great as the book but not really. Though I would reread the book but not re watch the play.

ReplyDeleteWhat i think about the play of Gossamer is that it was good decorative and coloratve.I like how they have the other daydreamers in an "egg".It was great how they made the sinissteed in a dragon/monsterish way and how the boy reacted.In thr story i like how they made the boy think her mom was rich when actually she was poor and stuff.

ReplyDeleteI thought that the play was much better than the book because I could instead of imagining it I could actually see it. The characters in the play I actually did think they were going to be more detailed and diffrent I also think that they could of put more effort in the play more detail and more action to it. Because in the book they put way more details in the book but it was better just better seeing the play than just having to sit thier reading the book I really enjoyed the book the most interesting part of the play was when John turned out to be a girl and I really thought it was a boy not a girl.
ReplyDeleteI liked the play better than the book. In the book I got very confused. I barely understood it after we saw the play. The play was also kind of boring. Another thing I didn't understand was the part were the sinisteeds came in the horde. There were "hundreds of hooves" in the book. And in the play It was three persons.

ReplyDeleteI loved the play because it was easier to understand than the book because in the book the author used complicated words i didn't have any idea what they meant or even that they existed.But in the play I could see what those words meant because the actors were really well in acting and they acted out what the complicated words meant. Like for example Littlest One (in the play) said that she had a very light touch and then she showed how she touches things toward Thin Elderly...and then Thin Elderly said she had a very Gossamer touch. I had no idea what that meant while we read it in the books, I looked for it in the ditionary but it used the word in the definition, but when Littlest One showed her touch and then THin Elderly said she had a Gossamer touch then i knew it meant very light, fragile and delicate touch. Also I never quite understood why the book was called Gossamer but at the end of the play when Littlest One was named Gossamer I understood why the book was called Gossamer.
ReplyDeleteAccording to me, I liked the book better than the play. The reason to this was because the book gave me more information that I was wondering about than the play. Although, I still had questions in mind that the book didn't quite answer, it did answer a few that I was wondering about. The play was good and all, but not as much as the book. The book was more interesting and more exciting.

ReplyDeleteI thought both the book and the play were very boring. The book had many information about other characters not needed because they were minor charactera. The book overall was boring for me. The play was equally boring, since it was based on the story. One thing I disliked is that they talked in hush voices while we were in a cramped place with other schools. One postive thing about the play is that they potrayed the characters very well and they used the stage very good for the settings in the story. Overall, the play was little better than the book, but not a lot, probably one point more, out of 5.
ReplyDeleteI think the book was a great,fun,and interresting book to read.I enjoyed reading the book better than the play because each time the I read the book I imagined it more than I did in the play.The play was pretty cool and the actors were great but I think reading the book gave me more thoughts about how each play looked like.Even though I didnt read some chapters from the book I still would go along with the book rather than the play.The images in my head seemed more realistic than how the people acted it out in the play.
ReplyDeleteI thought the book was lame by the cover.I think it is true about never judge a book by its cover.But nah the book was straight I liked it its crazy when John's dad graves John's head and rubs it on John's pee when he peed on the rug when he was little.& when he eats the dog's food that is some bogous crazy thing.And thats the parts that I like and what I think about the book.

The movie like because it help me understand better what the story was about. When i was watching the acters act it out it look excatly like the book. I remember some parts about the book and i remember that when we were seeing the movie. My opinion about the book it it was a okay book but the movie was way better. I liked the movie and mostly all the people enjoyed the movie also.

I started to understand all the different characters like the different types of dream givers which were Littlest one fastedious Thin Elderly and Most Ancient. I like the play better because it was more descipted and the characters were realistic which made it seem it was happening in real life and help me understood it better.

ReplyDeleteI like better the book because it has more details than the play.The book discribes the characters more and what they like but the play there were just showing parts of the story.In the book the author discribed how the horde is made up of more than 1 sinisteed and in the play it only showed 3 part of the sinisteed forming into 1 "horde".I like the book better.

La obra estuvo muy dibertida . sobre todo sabiendo de que se trataba poque .ya habia leido el libro . ya tenia una idea de lo que se trataba la obra estaba muy bien creada .y los caracters hasian que la obra se biera mucho mas interesante los caractes hasian muy bien su papel

ReplyDeleteliked when the Sinisteed had came with the creepy music. I liked when some music appeared,
and I didn't like when John's dad made him eat dog food.
I Think the book was boring at first and the cover looked lame but then when i kept on reading it got more exciting it was sometimes boring but sometime cool haha so yeah it kept on getting better.!
ReplyDeleteThe things that I like in the book or movie is the way the actors play the chracter.Also the character that I like in the show was little's one because I enjoy when she ask to many questions and the way she always sucks her thumb.The things that I like about the book is that it show moreinformation about the characters and how each setting was describeted and all the dreams that the dream giver gave to john.The show was great when hey sow the dreams that they were giving to jonh,and the old lady.
ReplyDeleteI think the show was better because I understand better the characters how they look like how they act. I like its better because I didn't get confused I like the stage its was big and it have decotive ,coroful,and when the characters reactions.It's was more funnier because i could see how they act and there faces.And when the johny stared to talk about his gun and all the other stuff its was funnier his reaction because i didn't need to imagine the characters faces reactions .And the better part is when u could u ask questions to the characters how they feel .Yeah I like better the play its was better to me to understand the gossamer.

The way that the book was descriding made everything excalent to visualize. the play was the same the characters showed alot of emotion and their acting was cool. From my opinion the book was better. I think this because i could visualize everything better.

ReplyDeletei liked the book and thought it was very interesting. I didnt see the play but wish i could have. i am interested in lots of things. theatre isnt one of them, but i really enjoyed the book. As my final statement i liked this book alot.
