i think that they were emberes because the womend did not said the true were she lifed. they did not like black people because they would emberest the black people that why they lyeng were they life.That i think it was unfer because they toke a black man out were they life from "they were going to take out people from were they life and they were going to life in the church.

ReplyDeleteIn this Cd track i learned that there was a problem with African Americans in Corbin wich was that white people didn't like African Americans. Why because they were racist.So back in 1919 they build a chu-chu train to take every single african away from corbin.African were even scared to come out off the train because they thought white people were going to hurt them. Even know people from corbin dont say that their from that place to an African american. For example in the cd track their was a blonde girl who had this experience. Her car broke down and an African american stop to helped them to take them to gas station. Once the man said where their from the mother said she from williamsberg and the girl was SHOCKED!!!!!!!!!

Knowing that i heard this made me think that it was the right thing to do.why if she would have said she was from corbin the guy would have made a mad face and left them their and probably smack them. You know what i think is that the lady lied just so she could get her car running what a person. What kind of person would do that but this is just my thoughts.Back to the cd track. Their is this guy name davis and her friend tommy who was going to his apartment 10 blocks away from corbin so she could do her hair and she said it was strange for an African american to live by that area were blacks were uninvited. I think this guy was trying to say was i'm not afraid if blacks were uninvited here i want to live were i want to live. Im happy that he did that because much blacks were scared to be in that place and that showed bravery.Learning all this expirience that happened in the past makes me think that was racist and that it's still going on and mexicans are facing this to meaning not only the blacks. When will people learn that were all the same and that god loves all the same im so angry that i want to punch somebody. Mr. Barr thank you so much for showing this video it made me think i could do something about it. I learned so much that i want to share it with my family.
What i know what happened in the small town is that between the civil war and tha 1920s white mobs violently expelled virtually all of their black neighbors. One of the places that is living with this uneasy history is Xorbin Kentucky. The racial cleansing in America is part of a multimedia project at reporting exploring the history.
ReplyDeleteWhat happend in the little town was that white racist wanted to get rid of the black population.In 1919 they build a rail rode track so they could put the African Americans and take them away.The African Americans were afraid to come out of the train because they thought the white poeple would do somethimg bad to them.The white poeple in corbin only left 3 of them because they thought they weren't going to do anything bad.I fill this is bad like why don't they just accept them or atleast just ignore them and move on.Poeple who are racist to them have no life they have nothing better to do than being bogus to them.
ReplyDeleteI thought alot of people were helpful and most people were kind of racist. I think this because a pastor thought there would be more blacks in the church because of Hurricane Katrina. Also thatone lady and her daughter got a ride by an African American and lied from where they were from. Also there were mobs to drive out blacks from their communities by whites.

ReplyDeleteWell Corbin was a town where Kentucky fried chicken was first opened. Corbin was in a bad situation where racism was going on. It was dangerous for African Americans to go there. One night two African American men held up this white man and all white men of Corbin got angry and were determined to run all African Americans out of Corbin town. Some African Americans were forced to leave Corbin when they were innocent people. Years later Corbin changed, when people lost thier homes in hurricane katrina, a church welcomed them there. There was a growing population of African Americans, and people were glad of that, But it was said that Corbin still has a lot of work to do before its old image is forgotten.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion on this is I believe that no matter what color or race you are, you should be able to live where you want, without being terrorized. Although Corbin's ways has changed i still feel how they treated African Americans was wrong. I believe you should treat people the way you want to be treated.

I feel that it is really interstin about this. Because about there home town. The history about it. About the civil war in the 1920's. And about it was in mostly in the black neighbors.
ReplyDeleteThere is two of the places about were the war was in.,Corbin, Kentucky, a small railroad town in the Appalachian foothills.
In the small town the whites were against each the blacks. The whites even hanged the blacks because they didn't like people with dark skin. It was a dangerous place to be in because of the violance and racism. Some people said that there was a black group of workers and were told to leave because they were violant. To built the railroad the black group had t return and that it wasn't about the race. The black residents that were living there were told to leave. And that they were peaceful.the white person in the black group was the mob guy and arrested. In my opinion I believe that it was about the race.
ReplyDeleteWhat I know that happend in the small town is that people were against eachother.They would hang eachother because they hated their backgrounds.This small town was very dangerous.Whites were against blacks when this took place.In the podcast that I listen to it was saying that there was a black group of workers and they were told to leave because supposeably they were violate so, they had to leave the small town.The black group that got sent out of the town had to go back because they were the ones that were going to build the railroad.So the eye witnisses agreed with the blacks.They were saying that rais wasnt the problem.The white leader of the white group was the one of the nob.This is my opinion and what I listen to online.He was also arrested.

ReplyDeleteI know that the small town called Corbon was just a town for all white people and later on the town had African Americans coming to Corbon and making a live there.Some of the people in the town didn't want the blacks in their town but later on there were 3 black that had live there for a few years and they were trustworthy with the rest of the town.Then one day there were lot of them but then town's people wanted them out except the 3 blacks that they trusted.I think it was a good idea that the people let African Americans stay in Corbon but also bad because they kick out the rest out and left the other 3 didn't have any of their raised.At the end I though the town had chage in late 1900's because they let in the black in or any kind into Corbon and if there's any promblem they would try to fix it like they said"we are going to deal with it and there's any problem's we'll try to fix it".Also they try to forgeteveything they have done in the past and retore everything like it was before.
ReplyDeleteI know that the small town had mostly pure whites.Those whites were racist therefore they did not welcome any blacks into their town.The town was not a very good place for the blacks becasue the whites had threatened ALOT of them ,telling them to leave before sundown.These whites also broke into the black people houses taking them into this place and hanging them to death.After a while the town got a little bit calmer and blacks could live there, but there was still a little bit of racism going on.The blacks noticed not all of them had equal rights,now that these black men worked with the white people.Some were treated differently because of there skin color.This town has gotten better over the past few years.Some whites treat others equaly now.They help others no matter what color there skin is,and some are even welcoming to the blacks.They greet them and even help them out.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I just heard,I think what happened in Corbin was just awful.The reason I say this is because I believe the "white"people had no right to banish African Americans,sure there might have been a mugging involved with two African Americans and a white man but that still doesn't mean that all the other African Americans will mugg or do the same things those two people chose to do.No one has the right to force another person to leave because of their race or what others from their race did,it's not their fault.
ReplyDeleteI also don't think it was fair when after World War 1 was over that African Americans where shot,killed,or lynched.Nontheless I'm glad that today in Corbin they are not banning/forcing African Americans to leave like they did back then with that incident.I hope sooner or later that no one else will be mistreated like those African Americans.
Well I think what happend in the small town is that the pepople take out the african americans they did not like then they were being racist they did not like then being on the town.My opinion to this is that they being meant to then just by there color and by did not like there culture.

In beginning of the story when the little girl is saying " she was with her mom ,then they ran out of gas,and an african america helps them by taking them to go get gas and bring them back .The mom was lies to the african american when he said " where are you from? ". She said some other town the little girl was schoked when her mom told that lie to the african ameican.The americans didn't want them in the town . The americacns used the african ameicans in world war one .They treated the africans americans bad,awful,unwanted, and not the same as americans. I say what happened in the small town was kinda racism, careless, and not wanted the african americans.
ReplyDeleteI think that the town has a little bit of projudice people.They mostly got over the past but I think that a part of it is still with them. Like the woman with her mother that got picked up by the black man. The man who picked them up asked them were they're from and the mother lied. That shows that people still have a little bit more to get over. Since the past history in the town in must have takened alot to get over their problems. Maybe in the future they would respect each other in thier minds more. Thats what I think happened to the small town.

ReplyDeleteI belive that what happend to the small town at first was that the white people were not accepting the African American people into our society. Forcing the African Americans to leave except for the ones who they belived were fine. What I think that is happening now with the small town is that probably many African Americans are afraid to fo to that place in kentucky. Fearing that they would be attacked by the whites just as it had happened back then. I also believe that the town is very lonely now. I think that it is hard for the African Americans to forget that, that happened not being able to forgive them.That is why I feel that they still do not want African Americans in our society. Leading me to feel that even other people from other races would not want to go to that town fearing that they may go through that,leaving the town lonley. It really shocked me to hear that the govenment of kentucky said that a person, from Chicago, did not want to go to that place.

They would make their lifes harder than they already were and even the African Americans living in the town there thought that, that time of year was one of the sadest ones. Some white people even lied that they were from somewhere else because they knew they lived in a black town. As the time passed by the African Americans were starting to get scared of going outside. They ware afraid people would offend them or treat them bad. Then what the government was starting to do was to just let a handful amount ,of African Americans, in the town. I feel that this was unfair because people shouldn't treat others any different from theirselves. People have the right to live in peace. Also the government should of done something about this.

ReplyDeleteI think that what happened in the small town was wrong. If one person did something wrong not all of that race should be labeled as dangerous. In the podcast 2 African Americans had stopped a white man and robbed him, since then a white mob tried to get all African Americans out of their town.(Corbin, Kentucky) I don't think this was the right choice to do. They should've just put in jail the robbers and leave the other African Americans in town since they didn't do anything wrong. It's not good to judge and that's what the white mob did. They kicked out almost every black except 3 because they didn't look harmful.

ReplyDeleteI dont like what happened. Why cant people just get along for once? Instead, people have to kick each other out of a town and never be allowed back there again, leaving a scar in the town. I like that they did that thing in the church though, because at least there letting the world know that there not racist anymore, even though some people still are. I think that if there were more black people there then that wouldn't have happened or maybe it would be the other way around.

ReplyDeletewhat i think of what happened in the small town was that they got the money from the crops they were selling and know the population was decreasing more and more they didnt now where the people were coming from they had 15 to 20 people living in one house they had to educate them and i think that was a hard work they were also making a protest saying that if they should stay there with their mouth shut while they took their schools and homes away and they said that what should they do? so i think they had a pretty hard time trying to do something to keep their rights and their hoe and the people that were talkin said that they just came to amke a better life for their family and they didnt care what other people said beacause they just came to work

ReplyDeleteBased on the video that I have seen I think that it was unfair how the white mob used to treat African Americans when they arrived to Corbin Kentucky in 1919. Like the time that John Turners house was attacked by the white people in October 30 and Steve Rogers was part of it. I think it is something very sad how African Americans had to go back to were they came from or leave from Corbin. After time past I think that problem with whites and African Americans was having a better result Steve Rogers was convicted of leading the mob and spent 2 years in the Kentucky State Penitention. After decades white confronted to the mob and it was better for the African Americans because some were protected by whites with their homes or businesses and finally almost after 90 years later whites said their town was welcoming to African Americans too. It was glad to hear that the church held about 25 people from the Golf Coast and about half were African Americans when Hurricane Cathrina happen. African Americans can now lived in Corbin and I think this is much better then treating them bad because of their race and yeah their is still some people that give them cold looks but there is a few more that will actually share a smile with African Americans. I think everyone should get along without lookin at race just like it happen back then in 1919.
ReplyDeleteI think that what happened in the small town is a very hurtful, yet extremely harsh memory that up to this day it still haunts it. Although, what happened was very mean and ignorant to the African American people, still I believe the small town should get a chance and people shouldn't judge the town by something that happened years ago. As time passes, things change, and as things change, people become different, and a new nation could be differently built into a nation in which now, could accept anyone, not just people that are a certain race.

In the podcast it said that the whites were trying to rid Corbin of all African Americans. They didn't have a right to do that because by that time they were free to do what they wanted. Also I think that after a while they started to realize that what they were doing was wrong to because they whites were starting to back up and agree with the African Americans. If they were that accepting from the beginning they could have saved themselves from all of the trouble and the hurt they caused the African Americans. That is what I think about what happened in the small town.

Tho that was back then and its not like it was the only town thatd did that.They invited the black people to stay because of the huricane and hoped for some to stay, i think that shows that they have changed.
ReplyDeleteI think that the whole banishment of the blacks was too extreme. The whole "cleansing" was an over-reactment of listening that a white man got mugged by two blacks. I think that it was good to at least allow three African Americans to stay because the town had realized that these three were kind and harmless to the white population of the town But kicking everyone else that was black out of the town was still too huge and racist of an idea to actually perform it.
ReplyDeleteWhat I think happened in the small town is that White people were angered that African-American's were taking their jobs away.They showed their anger by threating to hang them if they didn't come out of their houses. African-American's were afraid of being murdered, so some left the community. I feel that they were somewhat cowards, since they left town easily, but I also feel that they were doing good leaving because of being threathed for murder.

Africa Americans got kicked out of a town called corbon becuase they were black, also some were even killed by... they hung them they hit them with chains. The town and white people used to nput them in the trains becuase the were black they were racess. A pastor open his church to all the people that were suffering from hurricane Katrina and to the racess also.

ReplyDeleteWhat I think about what happened to the town was horrible because of the ways nigros acted was a surprising away like the time two nigros robbed the store and how the racism was back than and how the two people from the beginning of the story lied from where they were from. And how racial expalsions excited and now that the city is welcoming all black people and of any race. and also how the nigros acted to try to say "hello just because we are diffrent color and race it doesn't mean you have to treat us diffrent.

ReplyDeleteWhat I think about what happened in that small town was horrible because white people shouldn't have done those things to the African Americans.It's okay for the white people to feel what they feel but not okay how they delt with not likeing the African Americans. It was horrible how they pretty much chased them out of their homes or beat them so they leave. As well as making themselves a threat to the African Americans to make them feel scared , but the worst thing the white people did is sometimes kill the African Americans.

ReplyDeleteFrom ny point of view, what i think that happen in the small town was that black people werent allowed there. I declared this because in the story i heard the black people were chased, hated, and not alot where there. What happen was that in that small town they werent common with negros and there were alot of klan members. something else that happen was that there was a crime and they thought the nigros di it. Alot of white recidents were scared of them. After decades and decades negros werent allowed there but than by now they are welcomed any time but not alot there yet and there town needs to show there reputation as a good one.
ReplyDeleteI think what happened in the small town is terrible because people should'nt judge or hate people based on their race or color just as the white people did with the African Americans. They are people just like us and they have a voice in life as well as the freedom to try to suceed here in America. They are no different from us! The white people threatened the African Americas and also tried to get rid of them either by chasing them away or killing them at times. The white people commited the wrong choice by being racist to the African Americans and even though we might still see the racism a lot, people should remember that we are all the same despite the fact that we all look different.

From my opinion i think what happened was wrong, it was wrong because since the civil war over the african american people should be free to live were ever they like too. From what i heard the klan was big there so that was one main thing why not alot of african american people where there.
ReplyDeleteI was shocked to find that so many people could be so racist. Also because there were so many bad things they did and I think that in the small town were being prejudous. Finally I an very glad that this doesnt happen like it used to because now it is considered a hate crime.

some black people. I liked that some townspeople decided to be upstanders and protect some black people.
This is just another article about racism against black poeple. They sais that they said like their own railroads and stores. The main point they say is that the get like decraminated.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion i think that what happened in the small town was unfair. People should get to pick where they want to live. In this case a white mob forced negroes to get out of Corbin, Kentucky. Also, the way they treated them was wrong. When they were going to take the negroes out they broke down their doors and put them to gun point. This is very unfair because they are judging the people by their color. In the podcast a black man robbed a white man. If one dark colored person did something wrong they shouldn't treat the other dark people the same way. This was a racist and unfair act.
ReplyDeleteI think that the white and the blacks should have gotten along because it was both of their town not just one the whites shouldnt have run them out of town and the lady on the car shouldnt have been imberased to say were she was from just because of what happened in her past fathers life.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened in the small town was not right. People should learn to live with each other no matter what race. In the podcast white mobs started taking out their black friends after a black guy had robbed a white man. In my opinion this wasn't the correct way to solve the problem. The black guy should have just gone to jail and the white mobs should've let the other African Americans stay in the town. Anyways, the other African Americans didn't do anything wrong. In overall this act was racist and people shouldn't judge others by their color or race.
ReplyDeleteIn the town Corbin people were kinda racisists of who they talk to.Like in the beging the mom didnt really talk to the guy and she lied to him were she was from. In the town people still treated people differnt for how they look like.There was even a roit against eachother the white and black. They lived seperated ,It was called a town for whites.Now they are trying to rebuild and welcome people in the town.
ReplyDeleteI think it is sad and depressing of what happened in the little town. It is sad to know human beings were judged by their color when everybody should be treated equal. For a person being taken out of teir home at gunpoint and put in a train to leave is humiliating. They left all their belongings everything they worked for were gone just because their were Africans Americans. This shows how sometimes people are prejudice and don't think of their actions since they are blinded by hate.
ReplyDeletei now think that in Corbin,Kentucky maybe a few black poeple live there but only a few because they know what happened in Corbin in 1919 so they are scared to come back or to go to Corbin.

ReplyDeleteI think that happened in the small town that there was less African American. In 1990 was more African American. Many African American lived in Corsin, Kentucky. People didnt wanted to live or go to Corsin. A guy saw a group of guys that where at a neighbors house. they wanted the person to come out if he didnt come out they were going to hang him. In 1919 a mob, that is a group of people, wanted African American wanted to be gone, but they couldnt. A guy notice a hurricane distroyed many homes. He made the church an imergency home, but onother guy didnt wanted to do that because he knew black men where going to come to live here. The other guy didnt care. Half of African American were in the emergency room. They lived there for weeks or months.
ReplyDeleteWhat i think is happening in the small town is that white people are being racist to black only because 2 guys went and robbed a white guy. Know some white don'y even want the black here. They say that they are dangerous and that all odf them are the same, dangerous. But not all black are the same because a nice African man offered a women when her car ran out of gas and took her back. But later supposely decided to treat all African Americans the same.
ReplyDeletewhat i think about what happent at the town is that the peaple hsound stop been a by standers so they caould save their own livings i think that what happend should change because some peaple are affecting their lifes by the way that the one talked it was like that will affect alot to that pearson that saying about because she used some strong words like it was verry verry hard ,omg,and those words like that what i think that all thepeaple should get to a good decision and make it better :)
ReplyDeleteWhat I think happened is that the white people wanted to get revenge for the white man that was mugged. SO they got in a mob and kicked all the african americans out. Except a couple who had lived there a long time. Then the town made a "fable" to protect its town and name.After a while some AA moved back but then left.
