I Never Saw Another Butterfly
As part of our Holocaust presentation, some 8th grade Nightingale students performed a play that showed the hopes, dreams, and daily activities of children in the Terezin Concentration Camp.
Butterflies Project
These butterflies will be sent to a Holocaust museum in Texas to commerate the death of 1.5 million children during the Holocaust.
I think hiring Enrique a smuggler was a good idea because it helped Enrique to cross the border more easily.since lourdes hired a smuggler,The smuggler will help Enrique cross.so i think it was a good idea that lourdes hired a smuggler for Enrique.before there wasn't a smuggler,now there is to help Enrique get to his mom.
ReplyDeleteI believe, that Enrique &; his mother Lourdes made a good decision hiring a smuggler because they pass many people across the border and into Unites States. In the passage Enrique's Journey it states " We have your son in Texas, but $1,200 is not enough. $1,700. "(Nozario 2) Lourdes, a suspicious worried lady, believes that her son died on his way to the U.S. The smuggler , a sneaky quiet guy has just passed Enrique to U.S. In the passage Enrique's Journey it states " What kind of shoes do you have on? She asks. "Two left shoes." Enrique says. Fear drains from his mother like a wave back into the sea. It is Enrique. She feels pure happiness"(Nozario 3). Lourdes, a relieved happy mom, has just spoken to her son that he's in U.S. She is relieved that the smuggler got Enrique in the U.S, she believes buying the smuggler was a good idea. These are reasons why I think buying a smuggler was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI think that what Enrique is doing right because he needs to find his mom it will take anything for him to see his mom.He needs to save a lot of money because the smuggler charges alot but helps him finds his mom.So he needs to save his money to get the smuggler so he could find his mom once in for all.
ReplyDeleteWell for me it was like a good desicion because it is like a faster routine to all the smugglers that cross all most every day and a teenager wouldn't be able to cross with out the help of a smuggler and that is why i think it was a very good IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good decision to hire a smuggler, because right now he's on his way to go see his mom.Also this makes sense because the smuggler is helping him and the other two people.Enrique,young, went to look for his mother.The smuggler,smart,made sense to help the people.This would make sense because the smuggler maybe had this experience when he was younger.This would make sense to hire a smuggler for Enrique can't get lost or get caught while he sleeps'.The mother did a good thing to hire him.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a bad decision of like if he gets caught then the El tirindaro wont help him get out of the police and he will get send back all the way that he has work for to pass and get all over the world so i think is the bad idea because of how he has no back up if he gets caught so i think it was little better for himself or with other people on the train he could pick
ReplyDeleteI think that Enrique's decision along with his mother's on hiring a smuggler was a bad decision to make. I think this because it would've been a high risk for Enrique if anything went wrong, and his mother as well. In the text it read, Lourdes was suspicious she didn't quite believe Enrique was on the other line. Lourdes feels, unsure about Enrique being on the other line which meant she herself wasn't comfortable and thought it was a bad idea to make. Knowing Enrique,alone being so young making everything on his own with a smuggler can result dangerous. Many can tell this was a bad decision for Enrique, danger can come at any time for him I know that this can result in an big in packed for his mother if anything happened to him. The smuggler, he can result in a evil manner. how can you trust a smuggler? I feel like this is a question that Enrique can think of. this is why I think this is a bad decision.
ReplyDeleteI think Enrique's journey chapter 10 was like mostly exciting because Enrique meet someone new and his name was El Tirindaro they were both trying to get to america to see family members and they were helping each other in a way and they were at this spot by the edge of the lake i think and they well only Enrique was at the spot then he said come over here but don't step on the branches because they make to much noise and El Tirindaro runs and falls to the floor and made lot of noise and they just kept running but no one cough them because they were running to fast. thank you
ReplyDeleteI think it was not really good because how are there really going to know if there going to cross them probably some people would lie to them just to get money or something could be a police man trying to get the immigrants but in the other side it was kinda good because he was going to be able to see his mom but also it was really dangerous to cross the river according to the article Enrique was happy when they cross the border he was scared but in the same time he was happy so it was kinda a good thing thats what i think that hireing a smuggler was kinda a good thing

ReplyDeleteLa mama de Enrique, tomo una buena decision. Enrique, nunca tomo la buena desicion. La amistad, llega y conviene. Smuggler, toma la mejor propuesta. Enrique, viaja con seguridad. Lourdes, es la mama mejor. Smuggler, siempre estara con el. Es por eso de que si fue buena idea de que su mama tomo esa desicion.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good decision that they sent Enrique to his mother by a smuggler because smugglers are experienced on crossing the borders allot so they know which way to go. The text states,"Enrique trusts El Turindaro, but he costs $1,200."(Nazario ch.10 pg.2)
ReplyDeleteAlso the smugglers are a part of a smuggling organization that help cross the border more easily and faster. The text states,"In front sit a Latino driver and a woman, part of El Tirindaro's smuggling network. This mean that they have formed a smuggling organization that can help Enrique better. Enrique's mother did a good decision sending Enrique with a smuggler.
I think Enrique and is mother hire a smuggler and i think that it was a wrong decision.

According to Enrique Journey "Maybe Enrique is dead,and the smugglers are trying to cash in " in this part it saying that maybe they maybe lie to here mother that he my be dead or maybe that they got him and they have to pay more money to get him out or something about that.
that why i think is a bad decision.
I think that Enrique`s mother and his idea of having smugglers wasn`t a good idea. I think because what his mother doesn`t have enough money. In the story it says " In Texas it`s not enough for some so it will be $1,700".This means that they were planning in having a cheaper. I consider his idea bad because maybe he doesnt know the consecuences that it takes. This is why I disagree.
ReplyDeleteNow that Enrique call his mother he tells her that to call some people to bring him to the united states and so she okay but be careful,okay mijo and then when they pick up Enrique to take him to his mother and the guy is taking care of Enrique to bring him safe to his mother to be together and hug her and love her so much but it hard for him to get their and when he get their he is going to cry because he never seen his mother since he was five.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a bad idea that they hired a smuggler.Hiring a smuggler is a bad idea because if they catch them they are sending them back and all there doing is losing all there money.Although they hired a smuggler in chapter 10 and they didn't get caught but if they where to get caught Enrique was going to loose 1700 dollars. If i was Enrique I think I would rather wait for my mom to come and stay in a safe place rather than going back and fourth and just wasting money to hire smugglers because with that money I could of started doing something while waiting for my own mom to come.This is what I think about getting a smuggler.

ReplyDeleteI think it was a good idea to hire a smuggler because without one Enrique might have of probably not known how to get to where he wanted. Without a smuggler, Enrique wouldn't know either what places and situations were a bit difficult to get across from. In the article it states, "This is the hard part,- El Tirindaro says. He runs. Enrique races behind him.The Mexicans followed, up a steep embankment, along a well-worn dirt path, past mesquite bushes and behind some tamarind trees." (Nazario pg 2). If they didnt have a smuggle they wouldnt have known all those things they had to do. Another thing is when he warns them not to make any noise as they get to the U.S. soil.(Nazario pg.2) Having a smuggler can be a good idea to have because they know what not to do and to do. Enrique, a none giving up person, hopeful guy has almost completed his journey to get to his mother. Enrique has faced many challenges and dangers,yet he has not given up and he says he wont give up. That's why i think it's a good idea to hire a smuggler such as in this situation.

ReplyDeleteI believe that the decision they made was right because Enrique couldn't have passed with out him. Enrique is a smart boy,but he might not have made it without the smugglers help. Although they made the trip price a lot more money it was worth it because now she has her child with her. A piece of evidence that shows this is "Fear drains from his mothers back"(Narazio 11). This shows how Enrique's mom was happy and with less stress on her. This also shows how Enrique's mom is happy and finally see her son once again. Another piece of evidence is "her voice breaks, but she forces her self to cry" ( nazario
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good idea because to trust the smuggler because the smuggler did actually help enrique cross the boarder.But the people who help him were not helpful enough,But then the driver went to take enrique to a large house and then he got a chance to call his mom.Enrique was very scared because he didn't knew where her mom was.A lady came to talked on the phone saying that they need to pay like and amount they told them and enrique was very suspicious.
ReplyDeleteI think yes because it took faster for the smuggler to get Enrique and the others passed the border patrol fast. If Enrique's mother would have hired a different smuggler to get Enrique passed it would of most likely took a longer time for enrique to pass with the smuggler. Also if it would take a long time enrique could die because of the coldness of the water. Also the smuggler might give a higher price then the smuggler that enrique and his mom really hired. Thats why i think it was a good idea or decision to hire that smuggler in the story.
ReplyDeleteI think it is not a good decision for Enrique's because a snuggler can be a good person or bad person. Like what if they steal your $1,200 money. Its not just a bad decision if you chose it that you can trust and makes you happy. Enrique made it the US, but did not made to N.C., where his mother live.
ReplyDeleteon enriques decision to hire a smmugler it was a good decision because like that he would get to cross with somebody else and finally get to his mother. And it was a good decision also because they would tell enrique what to do in order for everything to come out right. my evidence is "he and the immigrants hurry along the edge of the rio grande to a tributary called Zacate Creek in silence, el tirando walks ahead scouting as he goes" (enriques journey chapter 10, paragrah 11). that evidence shows part of what i said because the tirando is aware of the patrols and the rest so they wont catch them. also because as soon as the tirando helped enrique cross the patrol agent distance he wouldnt of never got in a blazer that would take them to drop them off at dallas and enrique would get to call his mother. my evidence is "the blazer pulls up. enrique sinks back into the pillows. he thinks: i have crossed the last big hurdle. suddenly he is overwhelmed. that is part of evidence of my explanation because without the help of the tirando he wouldnt get to dallas or even call his mom. that ois why it was a good decision.
ReplyDeleteI think that hiring a smuggler was a good decision. So then when the smugglers were done with their job, the smuggler stop in a station in Dallas. T`he woman called Lourdes to let her know that they have their child with them. Then the woman ask that 1,200 was not enough they want 1,700. Lourdes thinks that they're trying to rip her off. She is thinking that her son is dead. So she ask to speak with him. Enrique answers she told him "Is it you" Enrique answer "Si, Mami, it's me". She thinks that it is not him. So she asked him an question. "What kind of shoes do you have on?" he answer " Two left shoes."
ReplyDeleteEnrique should have let his mom hire him a smuggler because El Tirinidaro's people are charging him more than they said they would " We have your son in Texas, but 1,200 is not enough. 1,700 " Since they over charged Enrique, it would have been better for his mom to hire a smuggler who would not charge them more than the agreed price. So i think Enrique's decision was not such a good one because he got ripped off and spent more money than he would have spent if he would have let his mother get him a better smuggler. But then if Enrique would have let his mother get him a smuggle he would have had to wait longer to get in America, while with El Tirindaro he would have gotten across quicker .
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good decision for Enrique and his mother to have hired a smuggler. I believe this because it got Enrique to be with his mom in the United States. Although the whole trip to get there was very dangerous, Enrique didn't quit and did what he had to do to survive the long journey. I think what kept him alive was probably the thought that he was going to be next to his mother all over again. In order for Enrique, the young boy who went to look for his mother in the US, to make it to his mom he had to follow certain rules that he had experience with. He learned from his mistakes. I think Enrique risked himself to be closer to his mom because he felt he couldn't be next to her.
ReplyDeleteI think Enrique's decision on hiring El Tirindaro was a good decision. Because if it wasn't for him, in my opinion, Enrique would have never made it. Think about it: Enrique could of have gave up and never make it to the United States. But then when he was about to give up, he heard about the famous smuggler and contacted him. Well not him, his mother did. But those are my thoughts on how Enrique made a good decision on hiring a smuggler.
ReplyDeleteI think that it was a great decision hiring a smuggler, EL Tirindaro because Enrique is willing to try anything just to be with his mother. and anyone will be willing to take chances, a risk just to be with their son again. plus the smuggler, El tirindaro was smart that he got Enrique to a safe place he is quick witted, and brave for helping migrants get through the boarder.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think that it was a good decision to hire a smuggler because, if it wasn't for the smuggler network he wouldn't had made it to the U.S. Even thought there was danger of him getting caught by the agents, either he would just stay in Nuevo Laredo and never see his mother again or he would take the risk of getting caught and maybe make it to the U.S with his mom. I believe that it was a good idea to hire a smuggler also because, he was know for actually being good at taking the immigrants to the U.S instead of just the immigrants alone trying to get there when they can get caught really easily because they will not know where to run or go, since they haven't experienced crossing to the U.S how a smuggler would, this is one of the main reasons that hiring a smuggler was a good idea for Enrique and the immigrants. In conclusion I believe that hiring the smuggler was a good idea, because of this reasons.

ReplyDeleteHiring a smuggler is not a good idea. Lourdes decision was not the best idea, Enrique could have been kidnapped or killed ! According to Enrique's Journy, " We have your son in Texas, but 1,200$ is not enough . 1,700$. Lourdes grows suspicious. Maybe Enrique is dead, and the smugglers are trying to cash in." This is one reason why this decision was bad, he could have been dead over money. People take great risks taking this decision and accepting any consequence. (Nazario 3). According to Enrique's Journey, "If you get caught, I don't know you." This shows that this decision well not be guaranteed. Anything can happen to Enrique is just the matter of trusting the coyotes or Tirindaro. This is why I believe that Enrique's and Lourdes decision is not a good nor safe.
ReplyDeleteI would make the same decision as Enrique because I get why he made that decision. I think it was a good idea because Enrique really misses his mom and it looks like he cant go on in life without her. According to the book Enrique's Journey it states, " But Enrique fears that he will end up on the streets or die. Only his mother can help him." (Nazario,1-2) This shows that only his mother can help fix his life or problems. Also that he really loves his mom that he will even cross the border and risk his life just to get to her. According to the book Enrique's Journey it states, " Send me! No one loves me." (Nazario, 1-2) This shows that Enrique is starting to feel lonely and maybe a little depressed. This also shows that he is getting mad at his mom but he really loves her too, so because he feels this way I think he needs to be with his mom. That is why I believe that it was a good decision and I get why he made that decision.
ReplyDeleteWhat I think is that it is not a good idea to hire a smuggler because some of them cant really be trusted. You can just give the smuggler the money and maybe he will tern you in to the police. But that is what I think some could smuggle you in and some can tern you in to the cops. Me second reason on why you should not hire a smuggler is that sometimes smugglers lead you to a place were you did not want to go or he might get you lost. But whit Enrique it is more risky because he is traveling by the sea to find his mom.But Enrique will do what ever he has to do to see his mom again. But their is a 50 chance that the smugglers will and can be trusted
ReplyDeleteI think that hiring a smuggler is not a good idea. According to "Enrique's Journey" it states " If you get caught i don't know you." (Nozario 2) This shows how people will work with you into doing lousy things, but once you get caught your on your own, so they won't be having your back to that point. Enrique, a good, innocent kid, is doing anything to be with his mother, so that proves that he'd even give up his life for her. According to "Enrique's Journey" it states, " She knows of a superior smuggler." (Nozario 2) This shows that Enrique's mother knows good business, when it comes to smugglers. I'm guessing she has had experience with smugglers before and that's why she knows what she is doing, but in the other hand I think that a smuggler will only get caught, end up in jail, regret it, like everyone else would. This is why I think that hiring a smuggler is a bad idea.

If they didn't have a smuggler he wouldn't have known not to do that. "El Tirindaro hold an inner tube" (Nazario 21). If he didn't have a smuggler he wouldn't have know what to go across in. This why I think it was a good idea to get a smuggler.
ReplyDeleteBased on Enrique's decision to hire a smuggler was not a good decision. What if Enrique got injure , I'm pretty sure the smuggler would've left Enrique right there. Some smugglers don't even do their job right and all they want is the money. According to "Enrique's Journey" it states, " If you get caught, I don't know you', says El Tirindaro. He is stern" (Nazario 2). Even if Enrique would've been caught , it will still be the smuggler job to help him out on everything. Since the smuggler is getting paid $1,200, it is his job to get Enrique to the United States. According to the article is states" We have your son in Texas, but $1,200 is not enough.$1,700.Lourdes grows suspicious, Maybe Enrique is dead and the smugglers are trying to cash in" (Nazario 3). Lourdes, Enrique's mother, who left his children to go to the United States is not concerned that Enrique is alive. Since Lourdes has been trough almost the same situation, she know how the smugglers work and what are mostly their intention , the money. In conclusion I think it wasn't a good decision to hire a smuggler. There could have happen a lot of things to you and the smuggler wouldn't care and just leave you there.
ReplyDeleteI think that Enrique's decision to hire a smuggler was good one because Lourdes wanted to earn more money for her children. Another reason is that Since Enrique wanted to see his mother again, so he tried multiple times to get to America where his mother said that is where she is going. One other reason was that since Enrique,the lonely boy, was acting up and doesn't feel loved without seeing his mother again, so immigrating to America helps with his problems back home with his family, too. Even though the journey is dangerous, it brings Enrique new experiences and wonders, even if some of them are bad, and showing that he is dong this just to see his mother again.

ReplyDeletei think it was a good idea because it can help the immigrants cross the border. even thought it is risky to trust someone you don't that much but its better than doing alone and not knowing what to do. in chapter ten it talks about him finally speaking to his mom but it also talks about how much did El tirindaro helped him. He did help Enrique and his also confused immigrants to cross the border.So the smugglers are really help full to the immigrants
ReplyDeleteI think it is good to hire a smuggler because they are willing to risk their lives so you can be in the United States. They have experience doing it because im sure they have done it before. I suppose Enrique agrees to my statement because he made it to the U.S with the help of a smuggler. These people just want the best for you because they have witnessed the life of being poor and knowing that going to the United States will make life less difficult is a blessing for them. Thats why it is good to have a smuggler.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a good idea for his mother to hire a smuggler because he knows the right way to help immigrants migrate to were ever they are going.I also think it was a good decision for her to make because if their is someone she knows well enough and can trust then it is a good idea.And I think that is it because El Tirindaro can be someone that also helped her migrate and or he can be a well known smuggler.

ReplyDeleteI believe it was a good decision hiring a smuggler because Enrique needed help with some things in order for him making it that far. According to Enrique's Journey "Already, 54 people have been called, lifeless, from the river at or near Nuevo Laredo. Enrique cannot swim, and he is afraid." (Nazario 22). This means that Enrique might have had trouble on his own if he wasn't with someone. This also means that if Enrique was drowning El Trindaro will help him out. According to Enrique's Journey "Don't rustle the garbage bag holding the clothes. Dont step on twigs Dont paddle; it makes noise.( Nazario 22).
ReplyDeleteFrom what I know in this chapter, I think it was a good decision to hire a smuggler for some help in his travel.In "Enrique's journey",it says " "No,no,",he says."I have someone here."Enrique trusts El Tirindaro, but he costs $1,200."(Nazario).It would say that El Tirindaro,who has a stubborn and kind temper, helps Enrique to go with him for a long time when trying to do something very possible at least when trying to get past a few places.It also makes him act in a silent way,but that is when El Tirindaro tries to not get spotted by any securities and tries to make it seem that nothing has happened.Another piece of evidence that would have to support this is " "Get up!" El Tirindaro says. A blazer stops. Enrique and the two Mexicans, with El Tirindaro leading,climb a wire fence and walk east, away from the freeway." (Nazario). That would show that they tried to do the best idea to get through as much to go far,and they have faced some of the worst situations that occur

ReplyDeleteWhat I think is that it is a good idea to hire a smuggler because the smugglers are sneaky,fast and they could hide you very well.The smugglers,aggressive adults,told Enrique the directions of what to do and how to hide in the Creek.According to "Enrique's Journey"Get over here" he says to Enrique/"Climb up"/He has other instructions:Don;t rustle the garbage bag holding the clothes/Don't step on twigs/Don't paddle;it makes noise"(Nazario)This shows how the smugglers are worried,smart on helping Enrique cross the border.Another way it shows how the smuggler,the smart smuggler, tells him what to not do.According to "Enrique's Journey" He and the three migrants hurry along the edge of the Rio Grande..(Nazario)
ReplyDeleteI think its a bad decision because when he is done taking him to the U.S he will ask more money then before and maybe threaten them if they don't give him the money. With the mother's decision she wants her son to be with her and not away from her son, so she doesn't have a choose to pay the smuggler.

ReplyDeleteI think that hiring a smuggler was a good decision. I say this because the smuggler knows the way to the U.S. border and how to cross it or he or she has had experience doing the job. According to "Enrique's Journey" it states, " He has other instructions" (Nazario 2) This shows the point because the smuggler knew what to do in order to bypass the guards. The smuggler has had experience doing the job. According to Enrique's Journey¨ it states, ¨ He runs¨ (Nazario 2) This also shows the point because the smuggler runs but doesn't run. This shows that he knew where to go. That is why it was a good idea to hire a smuggler.
ReplyDeleteYes, i do think that it was a good idea to hire a smuggler because that way Enrique would have a better future. According to the book, "Now he is 14, a teenager.He spends more time on the streets of Carrizal, which is quickly becoming one of Tegucigalpa's toughest neighborhoods."(Nazario pg 2).This shows how ever since his mother has left him since he was small has affected him in a negative way. Also, because he feels like his mother has rejected him and didn't want him. The book also said "If you had know my mom, you would know shes a good person"(Nazario pg3)This shows the reason for him waitng to go to the U.S.
ReplyDeleteI think hiring a smuggler is a good decision because Enrique doesn't know this part of the world, so a smuggler is going to take him where he needs to be because a smuggler probably already knows where to go.
ReplyDeleteGetting a smuggler is an decent idea to get, since its really hard to get over the boarder alone and with no skill into sneaking in a smuggler is really good in that part but then if you get caught the smugglers while act like they don't know you and you would get blame and caught and sent back to where you came or you'll go to jail and maybe killed and smugglers aren't cheap neither they want a lot of money and they will even raise the price if they so want to but if you can get one get one because its better getting over with a smuggler than rather going alone with no background knowledge to even find the street where you need to go so having a smuggler isn't bad you just need one that has been doing it for a while and knows the roots to follow without getting caught
ReplyDeleteI think that that decision they both made was good. I think that because with out the smuggler how was he going to get to the united states? He does not know anything about the united states but, the smuggler already knows the way and how to get across the safest although it costs a lot of money she really wants her son to be there and it is worth it. In conclusion i think that they made a very good decision even if it was very risky.
ReplyDeleteI think that hiring a smuggler was a good idea. I think that because without the smuggler, Enrique wouldn't know how to get past the border patrol checkpoint, and he would've been caught. But with the smuggler, he managed to get past the border patrol checkpoint, and get passed by agents. Enrique also gets a driver to drive them, so Enrique gets some sleep. After Enrique wakes up, "Four hundred miles later, the blazer pulls into a gas station on the outskirts of Dallas. Enrique awakens. El Tirindaro is gone. The driver drops off the mexicans and takes Enrique to a large house." (Nazario 2). Another reason is because El tirindaro gives Enrique instructions, "Get over here,' he says to Enrique. 'Climb up' he has other instructions: Don't rustle the garbage bag holding the clothes. Don't step on twigs. Don't paddle; it makes noise. El tirindaro slips into the water behind the tube and kicks his legs beneath the surface. It takes only a minute or two. He and Enrique reach a spot where the river slows, and Enrique grabs a branch. They pull ashore and touch soft, slippery mud. In his underwear, Enrique stands for the first time on U.S soil." (Nazario 3). Without the smuggler, Enrique wouldn't of had stood on the U.S soil. That is why I think Enrique made a good choice on buying a smuggler.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good idea because Enrique is finally going to be with his mom.Enrique has been in Nuevo Laredo a lot of time and now he wants to be with her and Enrique has seen him pass kids to The U.S and hasn't been caught. I think it was a good decision
ReplyDeleteYes I think is a good idea ,because he might not get so far by himself. Even if he knew the route he could get lost, and he could get even killed. Also he could get there faster cause he has someone showing him the way. Therefore he will get to his mother safely. They cost a lot of money to get there loved ones to the United States. After all this mess that they have gone through will be not he forgotten, but they will try to move on. The rule world ,is terrible to live in, but its a beautiful place to create memories. You see it was wise that Enrique's mother decide to hire a smuggler, this could have gotten wrong. Enrique is a strong boy but he needs to be stronger for his mother.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that it was kind of not a good decision because you can never truly trust someone you don't know they may look nice on the outside but maybe on the inside they are something way different something bad its called being fake.But at the same time he did help Enrique come to the united states. what if Lourdes hired a smuggler who was not as nice as the El Tirindaro what if he just did it for the money.People are not always nice let's say that Enrique died and called Lourdes and told her that he was still alive and he told her to give him the money then she will and then the smuggler would leave and then later on lourdes would find out that enrique is dead.So my opinion was that it wasnt a good idea.
ReplyDeleteHiring a smuggler is a good,bad decision because first it is a good decision because you can get to your destination quicker and its even safe but its bad because what if you pay the smuggler but he doesn't take you to your destination and what if you pay the smuggler but then he just drops you off anywhere and you have no idea were your at."Now a female smuggler is on the phone....The women says:we have your son in Texas but $1,200 is not enough $1,700.Lourdes sound suspicious maybe Enrique is dead"(Lazario 43)
ReplyDeleteI think hiring a smuggler was a good idea because they helped Enrique get closer to his mother. But it was not easy Enrique had to do dangerous thing, I mean what he is doing is illegal but it's for a good cause to see his mom. According to Enrique's Journey, " Now he runs faster. Numbness washes out of Enrique's legs./ It disappears in a wave of fear. They sprint next to a fence, then/ along a narrow path on a cliff about the creek. The dash down/ another embankment, into the dry upstream channel of Zacate/ Creek, under a pipe."
ReplyDelete( Nazario 5 ). Enrique, the brave smart boy, is going through all of this much fear to see his mother. Its worth it because he misses his mother, and his mother misses him. According to Enrique's Journey," Enrique sinks back into the pillows./ He thinks: I have crossed the last big hurdle. Suddenly he is/ overwhelmed. Never has he felt so happy."( Nazario 9 ). El Tirindaro, the generous, person helped Enrique cross the boarder and now he is close to the U.S. Which means he's closer to his mother, so I think hiring a smuggler was a good idea because he's no longer in Mexico he's in part of the U.S. That's why i think hiring a smuggler was a good idea.
I think that hiring a smuggler was a good decision because there is a lot more benefits to it. According to “Enrique’s Journey” “I have someone here, Enrique trust El Tirindaro, but he cost $1,200” (Nazario 2). Since Enrique trust El Tirindaro, the cost of helping across the border doesn't matter anymore because he need to go with him mother as soon as possible. Even if hiring the smuggler cost a lot of money, Enrique trust him because the smuggler has more experience helping other people cross the border. According to the text, “Dont rustle the garbage bag holding the clothes, dont step on twigs, dont paddle; it makes noise” (Nazario 2). The smuggler has probably been helping people cross the border for years, so therefore he already knows what and what not to do so they wont get caught. Having a lot of experience probably makes it easier to cross the border because you would already know shortcuts, where to stop, and most importantly what directions to go. I believe that hiring a smuggler would be a great decisions because there might be a lower risk to get caught because due to the experience the smuggler had.
ReplyDeleteI think that it was a good decision for them to hire a smuggler because Enrique and his mother wanted a better life and come to the United States,so this beneficial for them they wanted a better life they're getting it even though it cost a lot of money its still worth is because at the end of the day Enrique and his mother will be in the United States and will be together again.Now that they called Lourdes i think she should pay the money or at least try and pay the smugglers,so that Enrique and her can be reunited after so long.Unless Lourdes wants Enrique to be never found then she should
ReplyDeleteI will say yes that was a good decision because Enrique wants to find his mom so they both could be back together but his journey will be difficult because he try a lot of times and he know all the trouble and the path but this time he does not know what to do when he when on the Rio bravo and then he step on the U.S soil that when does not know
ReplyDeleteIn chapter ten of Enrique's Journey he and his mother decided to hire a smuggler. I think this is a bad decision because smugglers at times leave them somewhere to be caught,or they use the people for some of their work. They had another option though. Enrique could have continued alone. But he could die or get caught by la migra and get sent back. To hire a smuggler you sometimes need 1000 thousands dollars or more to get one. Often at times they want more. If you don't comply with their demands they often threaten to kill the person they are smuggling. This will happen if something bad has happened to one of the workers or the smuggler just wants more money. But some like El Trindaro are often nice and give them food or clothes and money to start off their lives in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteI think that the idea of Enriques mother hiring a smuggler was a good idea because even with the risk of something happening if he survives its a good thing so I do think it was a good idea. Since Enrique is crossing the border, and is risking his life just to be with his mother it is really worth the sacrifice. But yet the sneaky,horrible smugglers want to make Enriques mom pay a lot more money. So in the end i think that the decision that Enriques mom took was a really good one , therefore when Enrique arrives they will have a good life in the United States.

Enrique trust El Tirindaro, but he cost $1,200." This was risky but good because what if Enrique was wrong about this man, he could be a killer. This was good because he crossed the border safely. According to the text it say's," If you get caught, i dont know you, say's El Tirindaro. He is stern." This was risky because It seem like he was going to set them up and take all their money. I twas good because he didn't and was very serious about helping them. So in conclusion i think it was a good decision but it was also risky because anything could of happened.

Evidence to back this up will be " She will get the money together."Be careful", she says.(Nazario 77). I know this because even if Enrique wants to go to The United States and see her mom and she will get the money for a smuggler to bring him over. But the trip was hard and difficult for Enrique. Also another piece is when "They pull ashore and touch soft, slippery mud. In his underwear, Enrique stands for the first time on U.S soil."(Nazario 78). I picked this one because the plan to bring a smuggler was a success because Enrique now is on The United States, Now that he is in he probably going to see his mother.Unless when he is over there they catch him, but this was a good idea because the smuggler did a good job and took Enrique over so thats why i think it was a good idea

I say this because according to the text "Enrique`s Journey," stated, "She has visions of him dead/ his body dead, floating on the river, wet and swollen." (Nozario17) Here the story tells that people can and are found dead.To think that her son might be dead and she can`t control the situation because of distance wise. Also according to the text, "Enrique`s Journey," stated, " Lourdes grows suspicious/ maybe Enrique is dead and the smugglers are trying to cash in." (Nozario18) Here the mother gets news that the smugglers are wanting more money. But she has bed made out of worried needles stabbing her heart out. In some cases this is true, the smugglers first want the money that people give them to cross family members. Enrique was lucky that the smugglers did not have the intention to harm him. He could have been killed, kid -napped etc. His mother worried half to death about his son. In hands of people who she first might not trust her son`s life in their hands. That is why I think getting a smuggler was a bad and dangerous idea.
ReplyDeleteI do think that hiring a smuggler was a good decision because the smuggler(El Tirindaro) helped them cross over and checked for any agents. In the text it states,"finally, the agents seem to give up. El Tirindaro waits and watches. He makes certain, then returns."(Nazario 8). These lines explain that the smuggler was checking for their security and making sure that the agents were gone so that they can continue the trip. The skilled,strict smuggler, helped them cross over.In the text it also states,"El Tirindaro places a plastic garbage bag on Enrique's lap. it contains dry clothing for the four of them. then el tirindaro paddles and starts to push"(Nazario 8). These lines explain that the smuggler helped them a lot by the fact of giving them clothes,pushing or pulling them toward the island. That is why I think that hiring a smuggler was a good decision.

ReplyDeletei think was that contracting a smuggler was a bad idea because if he would of got cought he would be sent back and lose all of that money and he was taking a risk that he could of got robbed or killed and my opinion on him is that he is dumb because he is just wasting money if he could try to go to a foster home or some where else to live and if he would of gone then he would'nt be paying nothing and he could of gotten an education and he would feed his self and he could of talked to his mom there

If he would've passed it on his own he would've gotten caught and all that work that he did would've been useless. But then again its a bad idea. I think its a bad idea because they can get kidnapped.
ReplyDeleteI believe Enrique's decision was good because when you see the outcomes of the decision he made are greater outcomes then not deciding to have had a smuggler hired. He will have gained much more than staying. Yeah he could have had been captured and send back, but is it really worth having want you want right in front of you, but not willing to take a risk. He decided to take that risk to get want he has wanted for along time. He knew he could have lost it all but taking a chance is not always bad. By making that decision hes has made it much more farther then he has ever had.
ReplyDeleteI believe Enrique and his mother made a bed decision on buying a smuggler. I believe this because many bad things could have happened with the smuggler. One example would be that the smuggler could have gotten paid and still had not taken Enrique for what he was paid. Also Enrique could have gotten kidnapped by the smuggler and the smuggler could have done many terrible things maybe even kill Enrique. If you pay the smuggler, all you can do is pray that nothing bad happens because you cannot stop the smuggler from doing bad things. These are some situations were bad outcomes happen when paying a smuggler. These are some of the reasons why I thought why paying a smuggler was a bad idea. Finally I would say I disagree on the decision that Enrique and his mother made on hiring a smuggler.

I think they choose the right decision because Enrique has gone through a lot to have the chance of seeing his mom again. It might be dangerous to get a smuggler because you don't know to trust him or not, but Enrique has tried his best to get there. "Enrique stands for the first time on U.S soil." This shows how it was good to make that decision because without a smuggler, he would of probably not been there (Nazario 2). That's why I think it was a good decision.
ReplyDeleteEveryone makes decisions that sometimes, they have to make, because it is the best for you and your family. Enriques' mother, had to take a journey to the United states because they needed money for him and his sister. He decided to go find her. Once he is very close, he needs to get a hold on his mother. He needed a coyote to get there more secured. with someone that has experience. So I think it was a good idea, but he shouldn't have gone in the first place because it was inconceivably dangerous. I think it was a good decision because now he can atleast get there for shure. If he went solo, he could of gotten lost in the middle of the desert. Then he will never get to see his mother. Not only dad, he is going to die pretty quick to. Thats why i think that it was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteHiring a smuggler was a bad decision because maybe Enrique could've gotten hurt or mistreated with the smugglers. According to the text it states, "Now a female smuggler is on the phone. The woman says: We have your son in Texas, but $1,200 is not enough.$1,700."(Nazario 1). This shows how the smugglers are interested in money so if the Loudres doesn't give them enough money the smugglers might kill Enrique and get away with it. Another reason why I think this is a bad idea is because the smugglers might kidnap Enrique if his mother doesn't give the smugglers the money. According to the text it states, "Enrique cannot swim, and he is afraid."(Nazario 1). This shows how Enrique didn't know how to swim and he would probably have died. Although Enrique had gone through all that, the smugglers were not responsible for Enrique. Even if you trusted those smugglers they might have this opposite side of themselves. This is why I think smuggling is a bad decision.
